Job Description
University of Maryland School of Dentistry is seeking to fill two full-time faculty positions (non-tenure track) in the Operative Dentistry Division, Department of General Dentistry. Energetic applicants with a positive attitude towards teaching and a desire to develop and advance in a career in dental education are preferred.

We seek candidates highly motivated to teach at the preclinical and the clinical levels, with the ability for: teaching courses within the Department on topics of Operative Dentistry, Dental Anatomy and Occlusion, Dental Materials, Cariology and Esthetic Dentistry, developing new clinical, educational initiatives; and contributing with scholarly activities. A minimum of 60% effort is devoted to teaching the principles and techniques of operative dentistry to dental students in preclinical and clinical courses. The remaining time will be spent on scholarly activities, service, and professional development.

Specific duties include:

    Pre-clinical and clinical teaching in restorative dentistry, with an emphasis on teaching operative dentistry to predoctoral students in the DDS program. Serve as course director and instructor for one or more courses and/or elective courses with course preparation, development, and student tutorial responsibilities. Foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs Collaborate with peers to address teaching issues and improve students' learning experiences. Engage in collaborative scholarly activities within and outside of the department. Conducts or participates in dental research activities. Demonstrate innovative approaches to curricular development and/or continuing education. Excellent interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills and demonstrate a commitment to teaching and scholarship. Commitment to be a team player in planning, identifying, and resolving problems.
 



Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

    All candidates must have a DDS/DMD degree, or foreign equivalent, and eligibility for a Maryland dental license. Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications

    Qualified candidates will have a master's, or  Ph.D. degree in operative dentistry or a related area. Highly qualified candidates will have a strong record of publications, scientific accomplishments, and dental educational research experience.
Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position will be available until filled.
