The Department of Animal Science is a leader in extension and engagement programs in animal agriculture for farmers, allied industry and the public, and conducts internationally recognized research into the nutrition, genetics, reproduction, health and management of domesticated animals. Animal Science is the largest academic program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and provides instruction to over 850 undergraduate students, 80 agricultural institute students, and 90 graduate students.Essential Job Duties:
The Department of Animal Science at North Carolina State University seeks a highly-qualified candidate for an Assistant Professor / Extension Livestock Specialist in cattle breeding. This will be a 12-month, tenure track position with an 80% extension and 20% research appointment. The successful candidate is expected to develop an extension and applied research program focused on improving the North Carolina beef and dairy industries through genetic selection and the application of advanced reproductive technologies. The individual is also expected to develop and provide leadership for a nationally/internationally relevant extension program focused in the areas of cattle reproductive physiology, breeding, and quantitative genetics, or beef/dairy production management. A successful extension program will include state-of-the-art information/technology transfer for producers, county Extension personnel, other industry stakeholders, and collaboration with other scientists. In addition to new program development, this position will provide leadership to the NC Beef Cattle Improvement Program and directly interact with existing extension programs, such as the NC Beef System, Amazing Grazing, and NC Dairy Extension.Minimum Education and Experience:
Key responsibilities include: conducting applied research studies and demonstrations on research stations and commercial farms, collaborating with Animal Science Extension faculty and other Extension Specialists and Agents in support of education and research programs, and leading state-wide short courses on artificial insemination and other reproductive technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining extramural funding to support programs and will be expected to publish research and extension results in peer-reviewed journals and bulletins. Opportunities exist for the successful candidate to develop applied graduate-level courses in their respective field.

Must have a Ph.D. in Animal Science or a related discipline with an emphasis in animal breeding and genetics and/or reproductive physiology.Other Required Qualifications:
- Candidates must have extensive knowledge of beef/dairy cattle management systems and industry needs.
- The candidate must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills appropriate for producers, stakeholders and general audiences as well as students, faculty and staff.
Preference will be given to candidates with a willingness to collaborate with the animal industry and documented success in research and cooperative extension programs.Required License(s) or Certification(s):
