Overview

The Office of Student Leadership & Engagement is seeking to hire a Coordinator of Student Organizations and Engagement. This Coordinator serves as the lead point of contact for all student organization advising, resources, and support for the over 100 student groups on campus. The Student Leadership & Engagement Coordinator also serves as the advisor to the Program Board in their work of creating educational, social, and cultural programs and manages their budget of over $100,000 a year. Additionally, this role serves as the advisor to the Student Organization Committee of Macalester College Student Government, supporting the creation, auditing, and managing of student organization registration. 

 

The Coordinator of Student Organizations and Engagement uses knowledge of student learning and development to develop, design, and implement programs and services that support student leadership, transitions, and campus engagement. This position fosters learning through student engagement guided by learning outcomes and assesses the effectiveness of strategies in creating learning and leadership experiences, contributing to a dynamic Campus Life program for all students.

The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE) educates and empowers students to be their most successful selves through developmental co-curricular involvement opportunities. Our mission is to build community through campus engagement, develop educational initiatives and programs to promote student leadership development, and to create comprehensive transitional programming to support the educational, social, and personal developmental needs of students.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements comprehensive advising, services, and trainings that facilitate successful student organization involvement. Oversees the management of student organization registration and administrative logistics in Presence software. Advises Student Organization Committee. Provides support and resources to staff/faculty organization advisors. Processes student organization contract requests. Supervises OSLE student employee for Presence management.
  • Serves as primary advisor to the Program Board and coordinates the implementation of a broad array of large-scale, student-led programming.
  • Plans and implements transition programs in collaboration with other campus departments (e.g., Campus Center Programs & Services; Residential Life; Alumni Engagement) and other educational programs and events. 
  • Collaborates with OSLE staff to implement office initiatives including the OrientationPlus+ social media series, New Student Orientation, and leadership programs. 
  • Manages OSLE social media accounts and related initiatives. Supervises student employee focused on social media.
Qualifications

 

  • 1-3 years of experience with program board advising is required. Experience with orientation and outdoor programs is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of student learning and development.
  • General problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize.
  • Ability to utilize or learn basic office computing software.
  • Master’s Degree required. 
  • Demonstrates the commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity. Compensation & Benefits: 

This is a full-time, exempt position. Total compensation includes an annual salary of 48,000-50,000 and Macalester’s Benefits Package.
