Ursinus College participates as a member of the Centennial Conference at the NCAA Division III level. The sports medicine department provides athletic training services to 25 Division III intercollegiate sport teams. This position assists the Director of Sports Medicine in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the sports medicine department and sports medicine clinic operation.

Ursinus College Sports Medicine is searching for an athletic trainer to serve in an assistant OR associate athletic trainer role. This position will work primarily with women’s soccer and baseball, with other sports to be determined. Experience with baseball and the upper extremity, as well as experience with strength and conditioning, would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Provide onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation for the College’s athletic department as directed by the Director of Sports Medicine
  • Maintain attendance at scheduled team practices and competitions as deemed necessary, including travel on occasion
  • Assist in the coordination of scheduling all student-athletes for physical examinations, and medical referrals
  • Assist the athletic staff in efforts of injury prevention
  • Assist and oversee general athletic training room duties and operation
  • Assist in the supervision of Ursinus College athletic training aides
  • Serve as a preceptor to West Chester University athletic training students assigned to Ursinus College athletic trainers, as per our agreement with West Chester University
  • Manage the medical records and insurance claims for assigned athletic teams in conjunction with the sports medicine admin
  • Consult with the Team Physician(s) for guidance on the treatment of injured student-athletes, and report on their progress
  • Assist in recruiting and maintaining local physicians to serve as team physicians and medical consultants, and to assist with pre-participation physical examinations
  • Maintain the athletic training facilities, and equipment, in good working condition and meticulous sanitation
  • Maintain supplies for the treatment of injuries, first aid, and rehabilitation
  • Maintain diligent and concise medical records, and assist with the compilation, input, organization, and maintenance of all medical records on college student-athletes and share in the responsibility of maintaining and organizing the sports medicine clinic filing system

On top of general athletic training duties, someone hired in an associate athletic trainer capacity would serve in a supervisory role with administrative responsibilities that are extra to those collateral duties/tasks of the rest of the sports medicine staff. These may include any combination of, but are not limited to:

  • supervising and coordination of athletic training students through any/all clinical site affiliations
  • scheduling of coverage for practices/games/events
  • communicating with the sprots performance department and recommending injury prevention strategies
  • budget reconciliation and fiscal decision making
  • coordinating, keeping stock/inventory of, and filing claims for all braces
  • scheduling and coordinating pre-participation physical examinations and follow-ups
  • coordination across campus for wellness related initiatives
  • serving on committees relating to health and wellness in athletics and across campus
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in athletic training from a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Program
  • A Master’s degree in athletic training, or related field of study
  • Ability to effectively communicate clearly verbally and in writing
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in making critical decisions regarding health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes
  • Current good standing BOC certification
  • Pennsylvania State License in athletic training, or eligible for such
  • Current and active First Aid / CPR / AED certification
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to pass all relative background checks
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Assistant Athletic Trainer level: Two years of professional experience in athletic training at the high school or collegiate level preferred
  • Associate Athletic Trainer level: Five (5) years of professional experience in athletic training at the high school or collegiate level, at minimum, as well as two (2) years of supervisory experience, specifically regarding decision making and reviewing performance of staff, at minimum

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift, carry, and transport equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  • Frequently works outdoor practices and games in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Frequent after-hours work (early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Occasionally operates motor vehicles, including golf carts.
