Job Description:The Department of History at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-accruing position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 16, 2022, in Native American History. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in History or a related field by August 15, 2022. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a full benefits package.

The successful candidate should be able to contribute to the Department of History’s intellectual growth and emphasis on interdisciplinary and collaborative research. We have a preference for candidates whose scholarship and teaching emphasize Indigenous perspectives and have demonstrated expertise in research fields such as settler colonialism, pre-1900 Native American history, history of the Atlantic World, encounters and exchange, and/or borderlands history.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching a diverse body of undergraduate and graduate students in Gainesville, Florida and maintain a strong research and publishing agenda. Teaching responsibilities include upper-division and graduate courses in Native American history, as well as the United States history survey class since 1877. The ability to contribute significantly to graduate education and the mentoring of graduate students in the Department of History is highly desirable. The position will also include service responsibilities appropriate to rank.
