Title IX Investigator

Investigator reports to the Director of Compliance/Title IX Coordinator/ADA Coordinator, who has primary responsibility for the administration of UMW’s Policy on Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment and Other Forms of Interpersonal Violence. The Investigator assists in resolving complaints of sexual and gender-based harassment and other forms of interpersonal violence, including sexual assault, stalking, intimate partner violence, and other forms of prohibited conduct under the policy involving all students, faculty, and staff at the University of Mary Washington. The Investigator conducts prompt, thorough, impartial, and equitable investigations and writes detailed investigation reports. The investigator also prepares for hearings and presents the case during hearings.

Required KSAs / Competencies / Qualifications to successfully perform their work:
-3 to 5 years of related experience with at least 3 years relevant professional experience in the area of Title IX or civil rights related investigations, student conduct, or substantially related field;
-Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret Title IX, and applicable state and federal laws;  Ability to maintain neutrality and establish credibility;
-Ability to conduct sensitive and confidential investigations;
-Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills;
-Excellent written communication skills;
-Excellent oral communication skills;
-Experience working effectively within a diverse community;
-Ability to take initiative and independently organize, prioritize, and carry out detailed work under time constraints;
-Ability to draft Policy incorporating applicable federal and state laws;
-Ability to provide comprehensive training and education on the Policy;
-Desire to cultivate relationships with community and campus partners.

Preferred KSA's / Competencies / Qualifications to successfully perform the work-A working knowledge of Title VII, ADA, Section 504, FERPA, The Clery Act, VAWA, and other applicable civil rights laws.

Required Education-Master’s Degree in related area such as law, student affairs, higher education administration, criminology or sociology, or equivalent experience and training.

Required Experience-3-­5 years working in higher education, judicial affairs, student conduct, Title IX, and/or other civil rights investigations.

Preferred Education-JD

Preferred Experience-5 or more years working in student conduct, Title IX, or Title VII, with investigatory experience involving sexual harassment, sexual assault and/or intimate partner violence, or civil rights. Experience working with faculty, staff, and students.

Required Licensure-None

Preferred Licensure-Association for Title IX Administrators (ATIXA) training/certification or other relevant professional certification. Conflict Resolution or Mediation certification
