DESCRIPTION: The Department of Teaching and Learning in the School of Education, at the University of Redlands, invites applications for a teaching-track Visiting Assistant Professor position. We seek an accomplished and innovative colleague with the ability to teach in our Master's in Teaching and Learning program and coordinate the School's innovation pathway work in implementing a teacher residency program in urban settings. The residency program coordination includes, but is not limited to, working with the a) School of Education's PK-12 district and educational partners, b) teacher candidates, c) program faculty and the associate dean's office, and d) the Office of Student Success, which manages student teacher, internship, and residency placements. The successful candidate will collaborate with district and educational partners, as well as internal School of Education faculty and staff to develop processes and support systems for students, districts, and program faculty in the implementation and coordination of the residency program.

We seek a candidate who shares our commitment to advocacy for educational and social justice, and effective practices in teaching, including the integration of appropriate technologies. The search will emphasize candidates who advance diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching, scholarly, and service engagements. The University of Redlands is a private non-denominational, highly ranked university located in Redlands, California. Applicants should be able to facilitate undergraduate and graduate courses designed for teacher credential candidates preparing to teach in urban settings.

Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to work with practitioners and faculty and staff in the School of Education, and a minimum of 3 years of teaching in a PK-12 public-school setting. Candidates should demonstrate the potential and promise (or experience) to teach in a university and setting and have experience engaging with colleagues in collaborative work and projects. Candidates should also provide evidence of an active service agenda in PK-12 settings as well as the potential for scholarly engagement.

The School of Education orients itself to practice educational and social justice in teaching, scholarly engagement, and service. Faculty are keenly aware of this fundamental principle and center educational and social justice in their course content, as well as their research. Candidates should have a culturally rich background with an understanding of teaching racially and ethnically diverse learners, English learners, foster youth, students identified as having special needs, and students from a range of socio-economic backgrounds. Candidates are encouraged to identify their strengths and/or experiences in these areas and other aspects of inclusivity in their application.

The School of Education has been training teachers for the last 90 years. It is a graduate and professional school of education with a strong focus on personalized education and experiential pedagogy. The school is being led by a Dean whose clear vision and commitment to PK-20 education is an inspiration to the School and the surrounding community. The School is strongly founded on the tradition of liberal arts education, which is the hallmark of the entire University of Redlands. The vision for the future of the School includes a strengthened scholarly presence and an expanded community role. Just as the School engages in training thought leaders for the future, so we are seeking new faculty colleagues to assist us in our transformative work. The scope of work in the Department of Teaching and Learning provides various opportunities for close working relationships with colleagues.

Candidates receive support from the entire School in developing professional connections within and outside of the university campus. Candidates are expected to excel primarily in teaching but also engage in scholarly activities as well as university service. The School of Education at the University of Redlands with its departments (Teaching and Learning; Leadership and Higher Education; and Counseling) is at an exciting juncture. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinating the teacher residency pathway.
  • Designing and teaching courses at the credential level (graduate and undergraduate).
  • Developing and implementing innovative instructional strategies in early childhood education, multiple subject, single subject, and/or special education credential programs.
  • Supporting university supervisors and faculty working in PK-12 school settings.
  • Participating in designing and implementing innovative fieldwork and residency partnerships.
  • Engaging in scholarly activities.
  • Committing to an 11-month contract.
  • Participating in student recruitment into the graduate and undergraduate programs.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • An earned doctorate in teacher education or closely-related discipline.
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience in a diverse, K-12 urban school setting.
  • Demonstrated potential to teach at the credential, graduate, and/or undergraduate level.
  • Capacity to engage with colleagues in collaborative work and projects.
  • Applied work associated with diversity, equity, and inclusion.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience teaching in online education.
  • Commitment to promote engagement of minoritized learners in the field of education.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of adult and young-adult learners in .
  • Knowledge of effective teaching practices in online, hybrid, and face-to-face environments.
  • Leadership in teacher education that includes facilitating professional development for faculty and PK-12 educators.
  • Demonstrated excellence in supervisory work with teacher candidates.
