The SIU School of Dental Medicine is seeking qualified candidates to fill several full-time Dental Clinic Clerk II positions. Dental Clinics are located at all three campuses; Edwardsville, Alton, and East St. Louis. Immediate openings are available at the Edwardsville and East St. Louis campuses.

The Dental Clinic Clerk II is an integral part of the Dental Clinic team. The selected candidate(s) will assist the team leaders to ensure that patient care is being conducted in an effective and efficient manner at the assigned clinic. Various daily duties will include but are not limited to:
-Prepare, file, maintain, and retrieve electronic patient information.
-Answer patient questions in person and on the telephone.
-Schedule appointments for student/ faculty/ residents and patients, and confirm said appointments by phone or electronically.
-Be responsible for the proper charging and collection of fees from patients and insurance companies.
-Assist directly in resolving problems pertaining to patient care, or when necessary, refer the problem to appropriate staff/faculty/resident/student/Team Leader.

While the Dental Clinic Clerk II routinely works in an office environment, they can and will be utilized as a clinical Dental Assistant when needed. When serving as a Dental Assistant, the Clinic Clerk II will perform the full range of clinical duties as directed in accordance with all University, State, and Federal rules and regulations. These duties will include chairside assisting, dispensing and sterilization tasks, and radiology activities. Further duties and goals may be assigned in support of the clinic’s mission and goals.

The hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. East St. Louis) [37.5 hours weekly] and require no weekend or evening hours. The dental school (including all clinics) is closed for major holidays including Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday) and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Any one or acceptable combination of the following, totaling one year (12 months) of experience:
(a) Comparable to that performed at the Dental Clinic Clerk I level of this series.*See below **
(b) Certified Dental Assistant in a dental clinic facility, program, or in dentistry practice if required by employing institution.

For qualification purposes, a Dental Clinic Clerk I typically:-completes treatment forms and documents to assist with the progression of care of patients.-verifies treatment forms and records for completeness and appropriate signatures; locates and/or monitors the location of dental charts; may receive, post and allocate patient payments.-answers, screens, and routes telephone inquiries; receives, records, and transmits messages from various departments concerning patient treatment.-prepares summary reports, as requested; establishes new files and maintains existing files and records system.-performs routine dental assisting tasks and responsibilities.-may post and/or verify patient account payments received via mail from third party payers or patients or through direct interaction with the patient.-may provide point of contact inquiries, concerns and solutions related to patient’s services and account issues.-cash handling responsibilities.-assists in gathering of data for financial reporting and statistical analysis.
