Assistant Athletic Trainer

Job Description:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in all athletic training services for all student-athletes. This is a part-time position.

Essential Duties Summary:


  1. Assist the head trainer in the care, prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries for all student-athletes.
  2. Provide sports medicine coverage for practices and competitions as assigned.
  3. Maintain medical records in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  4. Ensure that the most current treatment, safety standards and best practices are implemented in daily care.
  5. Make appropriate physician’s referrals and appointments under the guidance of the Head Athletic Trainer.
  6. Communicate with student-athletes and coaches to ensure accurate and complete decisions regarding student-athlete injury and participation status.
  7. Provide instruction, direction and guidance to student-athletes in various aspects of physical training and improvement activities.
  8. Adhere to Skyline Conference guidelines, including visiting team accommodations and services.
  9. Maintain NATABOC continuing education requirements.
  1. Attend Athletic Department staff meetings.
  2. Assist with administration of the athletics program as needed.
  3. Attend all meetings of the Skyline Conference related to athletic training.

Required Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 1. Education and Training Bachelor’s degree in athletic training (or related discipline) and certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association’s Board of Certification is required. Master’s degree preferred. 2. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities, or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities: a. Knowledge of NCAA and NATA rules and regulations related to sports medicine. b. Ability to communicate orally and in writing, using the English language, for completion of staff expectations, and in creating documents throughout Athletic Department and the campus. c. Ability/willingness to work extended hours/flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and vacation periods as necessary. d. Ability to use a computer, keyboard and printer as necessary. 3. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions a. Ability to work extended hours/flexible schedule. b. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. c. Ability to drive. d. Ability to walk several flights of stairs, and/or attend meetings in other buildings located on or off-campus. e. Visual and hearing ability to perform all required duties related to the position. 4. Complexity Individual requires the ability to balance their time effectively and efficiently between teams and student-athletes needing assistance. Ability to work autonomously toward department priorities is essential. 5. Interpersonal/Supervisory/Management Skills Individual must be pleasant, helpful and professional to all student-athletes seeking or requiring medical assistance.
