ACADEMIC SKILLS LECTURER & ADVISOR

UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, California, is looking for a full-time lecturer and program administrator. The position involves a mix of teaching, program administration, and advising in the JD and Masters of Studies in Law (MSL) programs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Core job responsibilities include:

•    Teaching classes to JD and MSL students
•    As a faculty member affiliated with the Office for Academic Skills Instruction and Support (“OASIS”), delivering academic skills programming; providing academic support to individual students; collaborating with doctrinal 1L faculty in designing skills focused lessons that utilize active learning techniques; teaching or co-teaching such lessons; and teaching “Law & Process” versions of bar subject courses, which are designed to reinforce core skills such as written legal analysis
•    Supporting MSL Program classes and administration, including orientation, co-curricular programming and advising
•    Carrying out other duties associated with being a full-time faculty member, such as faculty committee service

The salary for this faculty position is $95,000 plus the full benefits available to UC Hastings faculty members and other employees.

Program administration duties must be performed during the full calendar year, but teaching obligations are limited to the fall and spring terms.

The Lecturer will report to the Provost & Academic Dean or his designee. The Lecturer’s time should be evenly split between the OASIS and the MSL Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have a J.D. degree and be admitted or eligible to be admitted to practice law in California or have been admitted to the bar of another state. At least two years of practice experience is required. At least two years of law school teaching experience is preferred. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys mentoring and supporting diverse students and who understands and can effectively explain to students how to succeed academically, including how to perform written legal analysis.
