Position Description:
Under the direct supervision of the ISO Supervisor and with frequent interaction with the Assistant Dean of International Program, the Student Affairs Officer is one of the team advisors supporting more than 1,300 applicants and 2,300 nonimmigrant international students enrolled in UCLA Extension certificate and English language programs. Student Affairs Officers (SAOs) in Extension's International Student Office (ISO) proactively build relationships with prospective international students that encourage enrollment growth, promote UCLA Extension certificate programs, English Language Programs, Study Abroad programs, and create a strong sense of connection to UCLA, Los Angeles, and the benefits of studying in a vibrant city where dreams can come true. SAOs reviews and processes prospective student inquiries and applications, provide ongoing counseling/advising to general requests for information and provide visa counseling to nonimmigrant international students enrolled in various academic and English language programs at UCLA Extension. SAOs are authorized by US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to certify eligibility to enter the United States by issuing to prospective students and dependents seeking F-1, F-2, M-1, or M-2 visas the Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status (Form I-20).

UCLA is a public research university located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. In the 2007 edition of U.S. News and World Report, UCLA Medical Center was ranked best in the West, as well as one of the top 3 hospitals in the United States alongside Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
