Position Description:
Under the direction of the Assistant Dean and Chief Marketing Communications Officer (CMO) for the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (UCLA Samueli), the Communications Associate will liaise with colleagues from within the Office of Communications, other units in the school and across campus to coordinate projects and activities, including internal and external meetings, speaking engagements, filming, events, etc. Working with the CMO, the Associate must keep track of timelines and items needed to ensure proper execution of such projects, paying special attention to deadlines and detail. The Associate will take on original writing assignments for the school's Newsroom and manage the school's social media channels, generating suitable and relevant content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and TikTok.

On a weekly basis, the Associate is in charge of collecting project updates from members in the Office of Communications to produce deliverables in preparation for the staff meeting. On an ongoing basis, the Associate will collect project requests from other units in the school and outside collaborators, working with CMO on project assignments and ensuring timely communications with relevant individuals. The Associate will coordinate project assignments among student writers and copy-edit drafts produced by the students. The Associate must fact-check content during the writing and editing process to ensure story accuracy and integrity. The Associate will assist in researching and identifying potential stories highlighting students, student groups, faculty and alumni. The Associate will also assist the CMO with administrative tasks as assigned.

The UCLA Samueli Office of Communications is a highly fast-paced work environment that is most suitable for individuals who are able to perform at a high level even as they pivot from one task to another. The Associate must be an effective and efficient project coordinator, being able to organize, troubleshoot and multitask various projects simultaneously with composure and professionalism. The successful candidate must be a thoughtful and clear communicator, strong writer and copy editor, with previous editing and writing internship experience while in college and/or at another organization.
