Description of Work:

The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is searching for a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice with expertise in audiology. This position is non-tenure leading with 12-month appointments of up to three (3) years and renewable thereafter with potential for promotion in rank to Associate or Full Professor of Practice.

Clinical responsibilities include providing hearing and balance diagnostic and treatment services to patients of all ages seen in our on-campus clinic, supervision of students, some administration tasks, maintaining and seeking out collaborative patient care with outside entities, and participation in the semester evaluation of students to verify clinical skills. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate or graduate coursework. Collaborative research opportunities are possible.The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders ( is nationally known for its graduate programs in Special Education, Speech Language Pathology, and Audiology and is committed to innovative inquiry to understand and mitigate learning and behavior disorders, speech/language impairments, and sensory loss. Department faculty are addressing important problems and developing interventions that facilitate academic success, social/emotional development, autonomous communication, and sensory access and rehabilitation throughout the lifespan. Current areas of research include academic interventions (reading, writing, math); learning technologies; behavioral interventions; neuroimaging; infant communication; speech physiology; communication technologies; amplification and perception; auditory and vestibular physiology; and genetics of inner ear dysfunction. The Department has active research collaborations on campus with the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior; the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools; and the Schmoker Reading Center. Collaborations also exist with Boys Town National Research Institute, Boys Town National Research Hospital, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, school districts within the region, and a number of national and international institutions and agencies.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate (AuD, PhD , or AuD-PhD) in Audiology or related field.
  • CCC-A from ASHA and Nebraska state license (or eligibility) in Audiology.
  • Must have a minimum of nine (9) months full-time clinical experience.
  • Clinical experience in cochlear implants required .

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of clinical experience with cochlear implants.
  • Previous student precepting experience.
