Location : UMHC SCCC at Comprehensive Pain Center

The Comprehensive Pain Center has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse 2 (RN 2). The RN 2:

  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the UPAIN Management department as specific to the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed via Nursing Process.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic information pertaining to all Pain Management procedures and exams.

  • Assists physician with all procedures which includes adhering to radiation exposure plan such as wearing of lead apron intra-procedure and a dosimeter badge.

  • Communicates relevant findings to Physicians.

  • Coordinate special needs/requirements as it relates to specific procedures (sedation, etc).

  • Consult with Physician for the necessity of pre-medication.

  • Ensures that all necessary pre-procedure lab values and when necessary EKG, CXR, and medical clearance requirements.

  • Provides pre-procedure information to patients 24 hours prior to scheduled procedure via education.

  • Provides pre and post Pain Management procedure teachings.

  • Facilitates continuity of care-by organizing, conducting and participating in physician care conferences. Assists and expedites the transfer of patients to and from the Pain Management Area, including transfer to SCCC Pain Area.

  • Ensures that all appropriate documentation has been completed prior to procedure such as: Consent, Modified History and Physical, ASA scores.

  • Evaluates overall patient assessment including physical and emotional aspects, and acts accordingly by referring to Psych, Physical Therapy, and or Alternative Medicine.

  • Floats to SCCC Pain Management Procedure and assist with Moderate Sedation of cases unable to be done at CRB, and or as need arises.

  • Performs pre/.intra/post assessments and reassessments utilizing critical thinking skills while focusing on the physical and psychosocial health status of the patient in an ongoing timely and systematic manner.

  • Obtains baseline information utilized for the development of individualized patient plan of care and post procedure teaching.

  • Provides direct and indirect patient and family care to assess needs.

  • Facilitates/patient/family education with interdisciplinary team involvement.

  • Monitors patient’s progress against plan of care until discharged from post recovery.

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to identify potential barriers and variances to the plan of care.

  • Documents in UMCARE pre/intra/post procedure nursing assessment and utilizes critical thinking skills to afford patient overall condition post procedure.

  • Ensures patient safety through assessment and education.

  • Works closely with MD to assess patient overall stability and if needed utilizes Social Services in cases whereby patient needs to be transferred to Crisis for safety reasons.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor’s degree (BSN) preferred. RNs hired with an Associates (ASN) degree have 2 years to complete the BSN degree.

Certification and Licensing:

  • Valid Florida Registered Nurse License, BLS, ACLS,PALS from the American Heart Association certifications required

Experience:

  • 3 -5 years recent Pain Management nursing experience preferred

  • Recent experience in administering moderate sedation preferred
