29-Mar-2022 Close All Job SummaryThe Student Academic Success Center (SASC) seeks applicants for the position of Leadership Instructor, to begin fall 2022. The instructor will teach leadership in the context of a comprehensive learning community for students from communities historically underserved in higher education. In addition to teaching, the instructor will serve in an advising capacity and will work collaboratively with SASC staff to design and implement co-curricular program components to support leadership development for the center’s diverse students.

Who We AreThe Student Academic Success Center (SASC) delivers programming designed to guide and support students from all backgrounds to perform successfully at the university level, especially those from communities historically under-served in higher education. SASC programming includes credit-bearing courses, supplemental instruction, academic guidance, and co-curricular student development activities. The SASC Humanities and Social Sciences Program supports student success in classes, majors, and professional fields rooted in reading, writing, critical thinking, leadership, and collaboration. In addition, the program works closely with SASC support programs to develop extra-curricular offerings to support pre-health students as well as those working to transfer from the Program in Exploratory Studies to the Leeds School of Business or the College of Engineering and Applied Science.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeThe SASC Leadership Instructor will teach core curriculum and elective courses in leadership (75%); serve as an academic coordinator to a caseload of SASC students (15%); and supervise a cohort of undergraduate instructional assistants working in humanities and social science courses (10%).
While SASC has a 50-year history at the university, our leadership offerings are a recent addition as an affiliate with the Center for Leadership. The ideal applicant will be an excellent instructor who wants to work collaboratively to build program components that prepare a diverse cohort of students for leadership in their home communities, professional pathways, and beyond.What You Should KnowThis is a 9-month academic year appointment beginning August 2022. Appointment will be for a one-year probationary period followed by a three-year appointment upon its successful completion.

  • Master’s degree in leadership studies, higher education leadership, or a related field
  • Two years of teaching experience
  • Demonstrated dedication to supporting students from underserved communities
What You Will Need
  • Knowledge of curriculum design
  • Knowledge of assessment practices
What We Would Like You To Have
  • PhD
  • Experience teaching writing at the college level
  • Experience working with BiPOC students as an instructor or advisor
  • Experience in higher education student support programs
  • Experience with youth leadership development
  • Graduate of an educational opportunity program such as the McNeill Academic Program, TRiO Student Support Services, or a similar program
  • Grant writing experience or willingness to learn
