HR Generalist/HRIS Support

The Human Resource Generalist supports the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department through the HR Service Center. Areas supported include, but are not limited to, benefits, leaves & accommodations, talent acquisition, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), and learning and development. This position will be closely aligned with the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) team. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in developing their skill set with Workday and reporting.

The HR Generalist is often the first interaction members of the Emerson Community have with HR, either through HR's ticket system, email, phone, and/or walk-in. Incumbents in this role must demonstrate a consistent commitment to strong customer service with a focus on understanding the issue presented and working to resolve the issue to completion. Thorough knowledge of and ability to explain Emerson's HR policies and practices is a must. Continue to support the advancement and maturity of the HR function in all areas through contributing ideas, innovative ways of thinking, and recommending new processes. A sense of humor, flexible work style, pro-active thinking and the ability to work in a highly collaborative culture are required. Details always matter. This is a hybrid position with the incumbents working both on campus and remotely.

Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Provide support in the creation and maintenance of reports and data entry in Workday (i.e. creating Supervisory Orgs and/or moving workers).
  • Support established system audits and troubleshoot issues in Workday raised to HRIS by end users in the community.
  • Auditing Workday data including Service Dates, employee type (temp, casual, fixed term, regular, location status, employment contract dates, etc.
  • Payroll troubleshooting


Human Resources Service Center
  • Provide excellent customer service to all Emerson community members through timely responses to Zendesk tickets, emails, phone calls, and walk-ins.
  • Assist community members through the navigation and functionality of Emerson's HCM system.
  • Answer inquiries for all functional areas of Emerson HR that may involve accessing systems and/or contacting vendors such as Emerson's HCM system, benefit vendors, etc.
  • Support the onboarding of new hires by answering questions including the I-9 verification process, photo changes and other steps completed via onboarding and in employment.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of job aids to capture best practices.
  • Assist in the navigation and support of unemployment claims through the state's Division of Unemployment Assistance (DUA)


Learning and Development
  • Facilitate and continually enhance the New Hire Orientation program (Day One and Day One prep) and First Year Experience.
  • Support the Learning and Development team with existing and new programs to enhance the quality and impact of the development opportunities.
  • Coordinate both the Stay interview and Exit interview process including organizing data, scheduling, collecting surveys, synthesizing results and creating quarterly reporting


Leaves and Accommodations
  • Partner with the Leaves of Absence and Accommodations Administrator as needed to provide direction and support on leaves and accommodation requests.
  • Understand the different types of leaves and how to direct questions to the right resources to initiate and/or support leaves.


Benefits
  • Facilitate and maintain all aspects of the Emerson Wellness programs using benefit offerings.
  • Provide customer service and/or data entry to the 403B program, transit reimbursement, tuition remission program, and invoicing from suppliers.
  • Answer questions from the Emerson community that may involve research of various degrees of complexity.


Requirements / Skills / Experiences
  • Bachelor's degree or 3 years relevant experience in the Human Resources industry; experience in higher education is a plus;
  • Experience with employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate member of the HR team as needed
  • Knowledge of current federal, state, and local employments laws, statutes, regulations, policies, and compliance
  • Excellent time management, decision-making, presentation, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of HR processes, systems and best practices, as well as legal compliance with national employment laws and regulations;
  • Stays abreast and engaged in emerging human resources industry best practices
  • Ability to understand business needs and connect those to human resources strategies and plans for assigned business unit
  • Demonstrates curiosity and desire to continuously learn and grow and contribute to the professional growth of others
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of HRIS systems (Workday a plus)


Grade of Position: A15E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Hiring Range: $52,200.00 - $54,700.00
