Description:

Home of the American School of Architecture and a Design Intelligence-ranked Architecture program, the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture (GCA) invites applications for two 9-month, full-time tenure-track, tenured, or renewable-term faculty positions focused on Design, Environmental Resilience and Sustainable Building Technology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Architecture beginning in August 2022.  Please note that Gibbs College is also hiring one tenure-track faculty member in Interior Design http://apply.interfolio.com/98669.

 

We seek emerging or established scholars, practitioner architects and engineers, and/or designers who are passionate about collaborating on research and design related to environmental resilience and sustainable building design and technology.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include:

  • Advancing a rigorous research, creative activity, and/or community engagement agenda, including collaborating across disciplines on research and outreach initiatives;
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses including seminars, lecture courses, and design studios (three to four courses per year);
  • One of the two faculty may be assigned to teach a Construction Science course;
  • Working with faculty and students in our NAAB-accredited programs to help maintain a curriculum consistent with program goals and related accreditation guidelines;
  • Offering mentored research and or practice opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students in the program
  • University and community-based service; this service work is highly valued and critical to the University mission

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of an accredited professional degree in Architecture (international equivalent such as RIBA) or a terminal degree such as a master’s or Ph.D. in Architecture or a related field; 
  • Professional registration/licensure or a Ph.D. will be required for tenure and promotion;
  • Potential to successfully teach architecture studios, seminars, and/or lecture courses;
  • Potential for research productivity or evidence of contributing to a successful design practice;
  • Effective communication and inter-personal skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Environmental Resilience and/or Sustainable Building Technology broadly construed to include any of the following:
    • efficient/responsive environmental technologies;
    • resilient fabrication and building technologies;
    • data-driven design;
    • building simulation and performance-based design;
  • Experience with successful collaborations in teaching, scholarly/creative activity, or community engagement;
  • Record of peer-reviewed research, patents, competition awards, design awards, or other peer-reviewed or publicly acknowledged design or community engagement work;
  • Preference may be given to those candidates who can articulate how they may address issues of equity and belonging through their teaching, research and/or service.
