Department of English
The Department of English offers programs that include the study of composition, language and linguistics, and literature. Within the major, students may concentrate their program of study in literature, language and linguistics, or English education. Linguistics courses at California State University, Dominguez Hills are taught by a dynamic group of faculty members who bring a diverse range of professional interests, strengths, and experiences to the Department of English. The department serves a strongly multicultural and multilingual undergraduate student body, primarily from the Los Angeles metropolitan area. In addition, the English Graduate Program currently includes certificates in Composition and Rhetoric and in TESL.

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.
Teach assigned upper division and graduate-level courses in the department’s linguistics/TESL curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
- A Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching.
- A Ph.D. or completed coursework in a Ph.D. program in linguistics/TESL or extensive professional experience is required for teaching upper-division core courses (300- or 400-level).
- Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
Employment Requirement – Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
