Essential Job Duties:

This position will provide administrative support and assistance with all aspects of coordinating the NC State Extension Master Gardener program, which includes over 3,800 volunteers working under the leadership of local Extension agents in 84 N.C. Cooperative Extension centers. Duties will focus on, but are not limited to, assisting with:

  • Providing technical assistance and management of the EMG Intranet, the password protected volunteer management system for the NC State Extension Master Gardener program
  • Enhancing communications between the state program, Extension professionals, and volunteers through Google Groups, an online newsletter, social media, Extension websites, and other avenues
  • Management of the public EMG website and maintenance of social media presence to market the program
  • Growing the NC Extension Master Gardener Endowment

Additional duties may include assisting with:
  • Administration of program policies, operating procedures, brand and logo guidelines
  • Planning and coordinating training opportunities for agents and volunteers, including statewide conferences, regional workshops and online learning opportunities
  • Administering statewide volunteer recognition, including Search for Excellence and the milestone award program
  • Development of volunteer recruitment materials
  • Reporting program accomplishments
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Information:
  • This position will receive direct supervision from the Extension Master Gardener Program Statewide Coordinator
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • This is a part-time, temporary position. Anticipated employment term will be 36 – 42 weeks per year

Minimum Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or Associate’s Degree with equivalent combination of training and experience

  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Gmail, Google Drive, Google Apps, Wordpress, Zoom, Canva, and image editing software
  • Excellent social media skills with experience managing Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube channels

  • Strong people skills and customer service focus
  • Ability to effectively work with volunteers and teams
  • Strong work ethic and integrity
  • Be self-motivated, cooperative, flexible, and dependable
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work with and respond to a diverse audience

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:

  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving technology issues.
  • Experience working with persons of diverse backgrounds and the recruitment, training, and engagement of volunteers strongly preferred.
  • Experience working as a volunteer preferred
  • Experience as an Extension Master Gardener volunteer or Extension Master Gardener program coordinator
