Director of Clinical Training 

 

 

 

Pacific University Oregon, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the full-time Director of Clinical Training in the Clinical Psychology PsyD Program.  The University is seeking an innovative and visionary leader to continue the strong legacy of the School of Graduate Psychology (SGP).  The Director (DCT) reports directly to the Dean for the School of Graduate Psychology, one of eight schools with the College of Health Professions (CHP).

 

 

 

The Position:  

 

The DCT is responsible for oversight and administrative management of all clinical training for PsyD students and will serve as the program's primary point of contact with clinical supervisors. The primary responsibilities include teaching, student advising and mentoring, oversight of clinical training, service to the School and continued scholarship in the field. Additional responsibilities may include involvement in off-campus, evening, or weekend duties/activities, as well as student recruitment, retention, and placement efforts. The DCT will possess an excellent understanding of clinical psychology and health service psychology education and trends in the field relative to the other health professions represented in the College of Health Professions. They will value student-centered, interprofessional and inquiry-based learning models.  The DCT will encourage assessment, improvement and training in the clinical training opportunities for all students.   

 

 

 

They will demonstrate the capacity to embrace the University’s historic mission of serving the underserved.  In addition, they will demonstrate a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity. The DCT will also serve on and participate in School and college-wide committees.  The DCT will exhibit strong communication skills, proactive problem-solving skills, support students and work well in teams and be responsible for creating and maintaining a culture of inclusion that engages students and values each person’s contribution to the shared Pacific University educational mission. The ideal candidate will have an appreciation of and a deep commitment to the value of clinical psychology education and the profession.  

 

 

 

We seek applicants with a PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology (or closely related field) with specialization in clinical training administration. Applicants with interest in one or more of the following areas are also encouraged to apply: Latinx populations, child and adolescent psychology, and forensic psychology.  In addition, evidence of the following qualities is also desired:

 

  • The highest ethics and integrity, maturity, tact, diplomacy and judgment;
  • An awareness of current trends and issues in clinical psychology education, on the national, regional and state levels;
  • The ability to navigate and be effective within a complex matrix organization that values collaboration and teamwork as well as individual initiative and creativity.

 

 

The School of Graduate Psychology (SGP):
Pacific’s School of Graduate Psychology is one of eight schools that comprise the University’s College of Health Professions. The PsyD program has been accredited by the APA since 1990 and has a long history of success.  The SGP’s Clinical PsyD program emphasizes clinical education and practical training reflecting the latest empirical findings in the field and combines coursework, practicum placements, and dissertation with professional support to help students complete the program with a versatile degree for practice, teaching or research.  In-house clinical training facilities also provide clinics for training doctoral students.  The SGP maintains the Pacific Psychology & Comprehensive Health Clinic, a training clinic located at two sites in Hillsboro and Portland.  These clinics offer a wide range of psychological services to the community.

 

The faculty and staff are committed to providing a professional curriculum that is learner-centered and focused.  The Clinical PsyD program offers five emphases within the generalist program which allows students to focus training on a specific area with its own defined curriculum and clinical opportunities.

The PsyD Program has three primary aims:

 

  • To prepare culturally and ethically competent, grounded, and humble practitioners who are committed to lifelong learning and application of knowledge; 
  • To prepare culturally and ethically competent, grounded, and humble scholars who are committed to lifelong learning and application of knowledge; 
  • To prepare culturally and ethically competent, grounded, and humble psychologists who are committed to lifelong learning and application of knowledge. 

The College of Health Professions:

 

Pacific’s College of Health Professions (CHP) is dedicated to preparing leaders in innovative healthcare for a diverse global community.  All of its programs further Pacific’s mission: A diverse and sustainable community dedicated to discovery and excellence in teaching, scholarship and practice, Pacific University inspires students to think, care, create, and pursue justice in our world.

 

 

 

CHP was established on the University’s Forest Grove campus in 2004, by consolidating four existing schools – Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, and Professional Psychology – under one administrative umbrella.  In August 2006, the College relocated to new facilities in Hillsboro, eight miles east of Forest Grove.  At that time, CHP launched two additional Schools – Dental Health Science and Pharmacy. The School of Healthcare Administration and Leadership, was added in 2008.  In 2012, the School of Audiology was added, increasing to eight the number of schools currently comprising the College.

 

 

 

In Fall 2020, CHP enrolled a total of approximately 80 undergraduate and 1,200 graduate students.  The College employs a total of 170 full-time faculty and staff.  Its operating budget is $29 million for the 21-22 fiscal year.  College revenues are generated through tuition (94%), clinic fees (2%) and grants or gifts (4%).  All of the CHP programs leading to a clinical practice credential are accredited by their relevant professional accreditation bodies.

Leadership:

 

Dr. Jenny Coyle will lead Pacific University as the institution’s 18th President beginning in July, 2022.  She will succeed President Lesley M. Hallick, who is retiring after 13 years of service.  Dr. Coyle brings nearly 30 years of experience in higher education, healthcare and leadership as she returns to Pacific, where she is an alumna, parent, and former professor and dean in the College of Optometry.  Currently dean of the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University, Dr. Coyle earned her bachelor of vision science in 1990, doctor of optometry in 1993, and master of science in vision science in 2000, all from Pacific University.

 

 

 

Governance:

 

Ultimate responsibility for the management and welfare of Pacific University resides with a Board of Trustees of up to 41 members. The current board is chaired by long-time board member Gerald Yoshida, a Pacific graduate. Its members represent broad public interests as well as the University’s constituencies, including alumni, faculty and students. Board membership is enhanced by additional Emeriti Trustees and one Honorary Trustee.
