Department The Florida State University College of Music is seeking a full-time Piano Technician to work as a part of the Piano Technology program, providing technical services for the College's inventory of approximately 250 pianos. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the Director of Piano Technology to help maintain the College of Music’s pianos at performance standards that meet the requirements of faculty, students, and guest artists.

Responsibilities
    Provide comprehensive technical services for a designated group of pianos in practice rooms, classrooms, teaching studios, and concert venues. This includes specialized piano repair services including but not limited to tuning, voicing, regulation, repairs, and preventative maintenance.Restore instruments in the piano workshop by restringing, replacing action parts, and reconditioning keyboards and damper systems.Develop and refine methods for the performance preparation of concert pianos.Manage the parts inventory and maintaining piano workshop.Coordinate with the Performance Operation Crews to schedule appropriate times for piano service.Assist with all aspects of piano use at the College of Music—e.g. repositioning pianos, removing piano lids, moving pianos, and responding to other piano-related requests. Manage allocation of the piano technology area's budget, serving as a liaison between the area and the fiscal office staff. Review all cost estimates and invoices to ensure that University financial and procurement guidelines are met.Supervise piano technology staff and OPS employees, meeting with deans and directors of the College to determine needs across all College of Music facilities. Gather feedback from students and faculty to determine if practice and performance needs are being met.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

    Effective verbal and written communication skillsExperience with Word, Excel, Gazelle, FMX, e-mail and/or similar software applications to produce written correspondence, reports, receive and respond to e-mail inquiries, tasks, etc.Effective time management, interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills Knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds
Preferred
    Minimum of five years of experience maintaining pianos at optimal levelCompletion of a recognized program as a piano technician (e.g. C.F. Theodore Steinway Technical Academy)Ability to tune by earUniversity, conservatory, or other institutional experience Registered Piano Technician (RPT) and Piano Technicians GuildExperience with historical keyboard tuning and repair

Anticipated Salary Range

Minimum $47,659, contingent on experience.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

Schedule Availability to work weekdays standard working hours (8:00AM-5:00PM). Evening and weekend work is required due to concert and event scheduling as well as occasional travel.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
