Position Information

The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) is a unique and collaborative graduate school that combines the collective expertise of three Colorado universities: the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz) in Aurora, Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, and the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Greeley, Colorado. The Colorado School of Public Health is the only accredited school of public health in the Rocky Mountain Region, attracting top tier faculty and students from across the country, and providing a vital contribution towards ensuring our region’s health and wellbeing. The school’s faculty, staff, and students work together to reach underserved populations, share knowledge, and conduct innovative research and community service to actively address public health issues including chronic disease, access to healthcare, environmental threats, emerging infectious diseases, costly injuries, and more.

The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) is the primary point of contact for all aspects of a faculty member’s academic life. OFA explains and advises on faculty laws, policies, and procedures, and oversees faculty recruitment, appointment, promotion, and tenure (APT) procedures. OFA engages in faculty mentoring, development, and retention as well as in salary setting and equity analysis and review. The Office oversees and advises on comprehensive performance reviews, such as mid-term and post-tenure reviews, to include faculty grievance and faculty personnel actions. OFA is committed to and engaged in diversity, inclusion, and international recruitment. The Office works collaboratively with the School’s Dean’s Office, five Departments, the School’s Centers, the Provost Office, the Office of International Affairs and external partners such as CSU and UNC, local health and hospital organizations, and the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH). OFA leads its own Faculty Affairs Committee, provides guidance to the departmental Appointment, Promotion and Tenure (APT) committees, and is represented at the school-wide APT Committee, Faculty Senate, and the Inclusive Excellence Committee.

Position Emphasis

In the context of OFA’s realm of duties, the Faculty Affairs Program Director is responsible for the ongoing leadership and oversight of Faculty Affairs operations for approximately 600 faculty members in all tracks and ranks.

Job Duties

Strategic Planning and Organizing  

    Lead the School’s Faculty Affairs operations. Understand the School’s vision and criteria for faculty in the tenure and non-tenure track within the broader context of University’s laws and policies.Seek input and collaborate with the CU Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs; evaluate outcomes of CU policies and be able to translate to and explain at the School level. Evaluate School’s initiatives and discussions and launch own projects relevant to faculty’s academic life and career.  Manage the OFA lifecycle and related projects from start to completion.Provide training for OFA Business Professionals.  Annual Appointment, Promotion and Tenure (APT) Review Process Oversee and lead the annual Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure process for the five Departments and the School, specifically:Advise department chairs, the School’s review committees and candidates on Promotion and Tenure criteria, processes, and procedures. Provide guidance to faculty in preparing best possible presentations of their dossiers.Review partial and full dossiers and ensure adherence to the relevant policies and procedures and Promotion and Tenure criteria. Review and advise on external reviewer list and reference letters and administer the external evaluation process. Coordinate appointment, promotion and tenure cases with the Provost Office.
Mid-Term Review (MTR) and Post-Tenure Review (PTR)

    Oversee and explain processes, timelines, and dossier requirements, and provide guidance to candidates, Department Chairs, and committees as applicable.
Annual Faculty Evaluations

    Coordinate the School’s annual faculty evaluations; provide relevant information and guidance to the Department Chairs, PIs, and the Dean’s Office regarding the required procedures and assist with procedures in evaluation results. Secure timely execution to meet University deadlines.
Policies and Procedures

    Stay abreast of University faculty laws and policies, and administrative policy statements.  Review and provide feedback on draft Campus policy and Administrative Statements.Inform and advise the school’s hiring authorities and faculty on relevant policy.Develop and implement new policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to faculty affairs at the school level. Identify and develop new activities to increase efficiency and workflow.
Committees

Faculty Affairs Committee (FAM)

    Initiate and prepare agenda items and relevant documentation on faculty affairs topics, such as strategic planning, policies and procedures at the University and the School level, faculty development, improvement of efficiency and workflow in the context of appointment, promotion and tenure. Inform represented stakeholders and address their questions.
Appointments Promotions and Tenure (APT) Committee

    Prepare agendas and relevant documentation for the Appointments, Promotions and Tenure review meetings; prepare for promotion and tenure reviews in close collaboration with APT Chair and the current nine APT members; assist with reviewer assignments; discuss with APT Chair and AD for Faculty special cases and, if applicable, research solutions for individual cases; edit and finalize APT letters of evaluation.
Faculty Appointments

    Lead and manage the School’s faculty recruitment and appointments of all ranks and tracks, specifically: Provide advice and direction on faculty recruitment and explain appropriate tracks. Advise search committees on university hiring policy and procedures. Review job descriptions, create job postings, prepare letters of offer and collaborate with the University’s International Office (ISSS) regarding international recruitments.              
Faculty Equity, Development, and Reports

    Maintain detailed faculty salary information; prepare the annual ASPPH data and salary reports; conduct faculty salary analyses and provide salary ranges.Oversee the calendar for faculty’s probationary period, Mid-Term Review (MTR) and Post-Tenure Review (PTR)Organize “Promotion 101” sessions targeted to specific faculty groups.Prepare annual Post-Tenure and Sabbatical reports for the Provost Office.


Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in business administration, health care administration, public administration, personnel administration, human resources, or a related field such as policy studies, communications, humanities, sociology, psychology, law or counseling from an accredited institution. 5+ years of progressively advanced experience in program management in an accredited institution of higher education specifically in the setting of Faculty Affairs, Academic Affairs, or Human Resources.Substitution: Work experience in Faculty Affairs, Academic Affairs, or Human Resources within a higher educational setting may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred Requirements

    Master’s or terminal degree in business administration, health care administration, public administration, personnel administration, human resources, or a related field such as policy studies, communications humanities, sociology, psychology, or counseling from an accredited institution. 10 plus years of progressively advanced experience in program leadership in an accredited institution of higher education specifically in the setting of Faculty Affairs, Academic Affairs, or Human Resources.

High level of attention to detail and accuracy.Outstanding customer service skills.Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this 100% full-time position has been established at $80,000 – $105,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation at the time of posting. The salary for the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, career field, education, and area of expertise.
