Job Summary

The Postdoctoral Fellowship at CAPS is a 12-month, full-time appointment designed to provide supervised clinical hours necessary for licensure in the state of Georgia (known as "supervised work experience"). The postdoc fellow will receive generalist training in clinical services with the opportunity to gain specialized experience in clinical matters and experiences pertaining to college student development. The postdoc fellow will receive intensive individual supervision and will have the opportunity to provide supervision to a practicum student. The postdoctoral fellow will gain training in the full spectrum of CAPS services that include clinical consultations, crisis appointments, individual and group therapy, outreach presentations, and on-call responsibilities. The fellowship also seeks to deepen conceptualization skills within both CBT and psychodynamic frameworks while also helping nurture the postdoc¿s unique clinical style. The fellowship will further help the postdoc in linking their case conceptualizations to their interventions. Care will be taken to further the development of culturally competent and ethically-mindful clinical work. Topics of professional development will also be integrated and include the licensure process, self-care, and identity development as a practicing psychologist.

  • Provides counseling services to GGC students. These services include initial consultations, individual and group counseling, clinical consultations, and crisis interventions.
  • Provides outreach presentations and programming to the campus community
  • Consults with GGC faculty, staff, and students to provide advice and support in assisting students in distress
  • Collaborates with other campus departments in order to promote mental health awareness and resources
  • Supervises the clinical activities of a practicum student and receives secondary supervision support
  • Participates in the after-hours on-call rotation for addressing campus crisis interventions
  • Participates as a team member in the Division of Student Affairs
  • Completes a specialized outreach project at CAPS over the course of their year
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Psy.D or Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
  • Experience in providing individual, couples, and/or group therapy; crisis counseling, and/or other clinical psychological services
  • Commitment to multiculturalism and experience with diverse populations
  • Completion of a doctoral graduate degree prior to starting postdoctoral fellowship
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a college counseling center
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, other departments, and/or students groups
  • Knowledge of, and skill in completing, administrative duties
  • Skill in interpersonal relationship building
  • Skill in oral and written communications
