Job Description:

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Director, Center for Student Leadership, Equity, and Excellence
Supervises: No professional staff. Supervises student staff

Summary of Position:
Reporting to the Director of the Center for Student Leadership, Equity and Excellence, the Coordinator for Student Activities and Events supports a comprehensive student activities program intended to enrich the co-curricular experience of undergraduate and graduate students. This role fosters an inclusive and vibrant campus life through student engagement and community building by creating and supporting co-curricular programs, large scale campus-wide events, and college traditions.

Essential Job Functions
Includes but not limited to:

Clubs & Student Government
  • Oversee the student club and organization registration process, adhere to the college policies and provide on-going mentorship and leadership development to clubs and organizations in collaboration with primary staff and faculty advisors
  • Create and implement a faculty and staff advisor training
  • Update and maintain the Student Clubs and Organization Handbook
  • Co-advise student government including but not limited to attending weekly board meetings, bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with leadership members, and providing oversight to the use and allocation of student fees to student government

Student Activities & Events
  • Implement and advise Student Programming Board
  • Lead and coordinate various aspects of campus-wide social, cultural and educational programming that supports the intellectual, personal, and social development of all students
  • Plan and implement Fall and Spring weeks of welcome programming and other major events
  • Work in collaboration with College Events to manage the event approval process for student-led programming
  • Schedule vendors and service providers, including catering, security, audiovisual services, college events and facilities related to areas of responsibility
  • Manage office social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter etc?)

Administrative Functions
  • Create reports and publications as needed, e.g., operations, programming, assessment, and administrative reports
  • Represent the department on Student Life, campus-wide, and departmental committees as assigned
  • Supervise student workers in office and programming tasks and participate in the hiring, training, and evaluation
  • Responsible for a thorough knowledge of applicable policies, regulations, and laws, including those of the legally authorized governing body; monitors compliance with and provides guidance regarding such policies, regulations, and law
  • Manage budgets for areas of responsibility including purchasing, expenses, forecasting and Concur submissions
  • Perform related duties as needed



Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience. Master's Degree Preferred.
  • Student or professional experience in social justice education, advocacy, and a demonstrated commitment to promoting equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated expertise in event planning and management.
  • Knowledge of and practice engaging in social justice work regarding power and privilege dynamics.
  • Ability to exhibit strong interpersonal skills with all levels of College constituencies and members of the public.
  • Ability to take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Context:
  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time
  • Occasionally work outdoors, depending on programming, possibly in inclement weather
  • Work often requires bending to adjust or work with office equipment
  • Work occasionally requires physical exertion such as lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Compensation is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with match, as well as paid vacation, sick time off, and holidays.
