The Opportunity

 

California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) seeks an inspiring and innovative leader to serve as Dean of the College of Arts and Letters. Reporting to the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs and working in collaboration with faculty, students, and staff, the dean will provide dynamic, visionary leadership to build upon the college’s strengths and develop new opportunities to fulfill the college’s role as a model of intellectual and community engagement.

The College of Arts and Letters is home to award-winning faculty and the nationally-ranked Cal State LA Forensics (Speech and Debate) Team. Required Qualifications

 

  • An earned terminal degree from an accredited university in the arts, humanities, liberal arts, or related field;
  • An excellent record of teaching, scholarship, and service at the university level with accomplishments to warrant appointment at the rank of tenured full professor within an existing department of the college;
  • Demonstrated ability to model and to lead in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service to the university;
  • A record of progressive leadership experience in academic administration that includes shared governance and consultative decision-making;
  • Demonstrated ability to support student success in undergraduate and graduate programs, including experience with students who are among the first generation in their families to attend college; and
  • Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and effective working environment amongst ethnically, racially, and culturally diverse faculty, staff, and students. 

 

 

The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University.
