Job Description

These seven (7) positions are professional positions involving planning, developing and coordinating assessment writing efforts designed to improve the quality of literacy, math, social studies and science instruction and associated skills in local public and charter school districts and assist their efforts to improve student performance.

• Facilitate activities involved in the development of assessment resources, assessment items and related content for a variety of purposes.
• Provide content expertise for the development and implementation of MAP assessments. These activities include but are not limited to item writing, content review, scoring material creation, item/form review, scoring monitoring, training materials review, assessment manual creation/review, and performance level descriptor drafting.
• Collaborate with DESE curriculum and assessment staff and MAPDP Program Manager.
• Plan and coordinate the development of assessment support materials, resources and training.
• Recruit educators to participate in assessment development activities.
• Maintain accurate records of activities.
• Provide training to a variety of audiences about issues related to MAP, local assessment, implementation of the Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) and priority standards, and related topics.
• Consistently report activities and data in a system and format designated by DESE.
• Attend and actively participate in recurring periodic and ad-hoc meetings and training as designated by the MAPDP calendar and direction of DESE.
• Attend and participate in conferences as requested by DESE.
• Other duties and functions as assigned by DESE.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in collaborative planning meetings with other literacy consultants within and across regions.
  • Assist DESE with the collection of data for statewide analysis.
  • Attend and actively participate in statewide monthly resource, support, and training meetings, as designated by the DESE master calendar and direction from the Literacy Coordinator.
  • Report data and consultant activities by the 5th day of each month using a DESE provided system.
  • Serve as a mentor for new consultants.
  • Attend regional and national conferences, as requested by DESE.
  • Other duties and functions as assigned.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS FOR MEETINGS
Attendance at and participation in all events, trainings, and meetings shall be conducted in-person or virtually as directed by DESE, in accordance with RPDC policy and applicable requirements issued by the Missouri Office of Administration, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, and/or local health department or municipality guidelines.



Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Five years of successful, progressively responsible experience in education or a closely related field, including the development of a variety of student assessments.
• Three years of classroom experience and elementary or secondary content-specific teaching certificate.
• Experience in the appropriate content area in large-scale assessment development, instruction, intervention, and assessment practices.
• Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate uses of educational tests and measurements for the improvement of instruction.
• Understanding of significant research in the content area regarding assessment and education and the ability to apply the findings to the improvement of instruction.
• Ability to express complex ideas to a variety of audiences clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
• Ability to manage diverse activities and meet established deadlines.
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport and effective working relationships with DESE, its partners and local school district personnel.
• Ability to analyze complex educational problems and develop feasible solutions.
• Ability to use technology to conduct work in remote and on-site settings and to deliver professional development in remote and on-site settings.

EDUCATION REQUIRED
Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in education or closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Experience with science of reading and associated instructional, intervention, and assessment practices.
  • Three years of successful experience working with students who struggle with Literacy, Math, Social Studies and Science acquisition.
  • Three years of classroom experience and elementary or secondary content-specific teaching certificate are required.
  • Understanding of significant research in the field of Literacy, Math, Social
  • Studies and Science and the ability to apply the findings to the improvement of instruction.
  • Understanding of practices within and implementation of core components within a multi-tiered system of support.
  • Understanding of effective high-quality professional development (HQPD) standards for adult learners.
  • Ability to express complex ideas to a variety of audiences clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage diverse activities and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport and effective working relationships with department staff and local school district personnel.
  • Ability to analyze complex educational problems and develop feasible solutions.


EDUCATION PREFERRED:
Bachelors’ degree in education or closely related field with concentration, specialization and/or emphasis in the appropriate content area is required; master’s degree and higher highly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift 25 pounds

Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint; web browsers

REQUIRED TRAVEL:
This position may be required to travel in-state and out-of-state.

Starts at $55,000
