Scope of Job:
The successful candidate will participate in curriculum development and quality online course design to improve student learning and student engagement. UTRGV clinical faculty are expected to demonstrate evidence of scholarly activity. The faculty member is expected to participate in student recruitment activities, be actively involved in professional organizations and committee work as well as other service activities. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV's strategic plan, vision, mission, values, and core priorities. Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Nutrition or closely related field OR
Doctoral degree in Biomedical or Biological sciences AND a scholarly record in the field of nutrition OR
MS degree in Nutrition or Dietetics and credentialed as a Registered Dietitian OR
Other MS degree in a health-related field and credentialed as a Registered Dietitian.
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Preferred Qualification:
Demonstrated scholarly productivity, active participation in professional organizations, evidence of contribution to curriculum development, evidence of participation in outreach and recruitment activities are highly valued.
Certification/training in nutrition in one or more of the following areas: life cycle nutrition, weight management/prevention of obesity, integrative nutrition, metabolic syndrome/diabetes, eating disorders.
2 years post-secondary teaching experience.
Online teaching experience with the Blackboard LMS.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days inlength.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
