Educational and Experience Requirement:

High school graduate or G.E.D. Prefer technical/vocational training related to job duties. A minimum of four years of skilled experience using various types of tractors, backhoes, and excavator equipment or experience in a related field. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

To provide skilled work in the operation of the University’s equipment and machines. To provide maintenance and repair of campus streets, signage, and parking areas.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for campus wide services which require the use of various pieces of equipment. Maintains and makes repairs to asphalt and concrete parking lots and campus streets. Responsible for the installation, care, and maintenance of signs for traffic and parking control. Lays out and paints parking areas and street crosswalks. Maintains various pieces of shop equipment such as Graco Line Driver HD Ride on Striping Machine. May excavate areas for water, gas or sewage line repair or replacement. May assist with the installation of any new underground lines or systems. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Requires a Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License. Assists with ordering materials and parts. Uses a computerized maintenance management system with work orders to allocate time and document work on a daily basis. Working conditions are considered fair but involve more than average (50-75%) exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as dust, dirt, and heat. Work is generally performed outside and requires daily exposure to weather. May be called out after normal hours for emergency repairs.

Uniforms and identification badges are provided by the University according to departmental policy. Must have a valid Texas CDL commercial driver’s license.
