Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Services, the Director of Recruitment will provide day-to-day guidance and supervision for a team of admissions counselors in promoting the values and strengths of Wells College to prospective first-year, transfer, and international students.

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/TASKS:

 

  1. Supervise a team of admissions counselors engaging in all aspects of undergraduate recruitment. Establish concrete goals and objectives; ensure accountability.
  2. Plan and implement ongoing training and professional development activities for new and continuing team members; mentor staff in enrollment best practices.
  3. Coordinate planning and implementation of recruitment activities, including recruitment travel and other outreach; analyze data and monitor metrics for success. 
  4. Assist in the development of departmental goals and objectives informed by the college’s strategic planning efforts, and the division’s strategic enrollment plan.
  5. Assist in development and delivery of a comprehensive communications plan including print and electronic outreach, online, phone and in-person relationship management.
  6. Collaborate with others to effect continuous improvement of our recruitment and selection process for new students.
  7. Engage in recruitment travel and other activities to develop interest in the college. Directly communicate with prospective students and parents, alumni, school counselors and other audiences.
  8. Participate in the planning and delivery of on-campus recruitment events including individual campus visits, open houses, scholarship programs, and appropriate leadership programs.
  9. Provide high quality service to prospective students and families with regard to admission and financial aid. Correspond and maintain connections with prospective students through a full range of communications vehicles including social media, video conference, letters, phone calls, interviews, e-mail, texts and personal visits. Counsel and advise students related to their college decision-making, answering their questions about Wells College.
  10. Review applications and provide recommendations for acceptance.

  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral to the educational experience; cultural humility and the motivation to continually develop intercultural competence; the capacity to positively promote an environment of inclusion
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to speak publicly and interact with students and families in person, over the phone, via text, email, online, through social media, and other formats
  • An internal mechanism for accountability and a drive to meet goals and deadlines
  • Strong writing skills, the ability to work independently, handle confidential information in a professional manner, pay attention to details, perform multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Ability to form collaborative working relationships with others and contribute positively as a member of our team

 

 QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

 Bachelor’s degree

 At least 3-5 years of experience with progressive responsibility in college/university admissions

 Preference given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:

 Master’s degree and/or 5 or more years of experience in college/university admissions.

  • Excellent technical/computer skills - including CRM systems (Wells College uses Slate), student information systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, database systems, etc. 
  • Ability to mine and analyze data to inform decision-making.
  • Proficiency with social media.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including international students.  
  • Proficiency in multiple languages (Spanish proficiency preferred).
