The selected candidate will play a key role in irrigation extension and research programs in West-Central and statewide across Nebraska, which has a large extent of irrigated acres, includes much of the irrigation industry, and is connected to the water management challenges of the Platte River. The incumbent will lead an extension and research program based out of the West Central Research, Extension, and Education Center (WCREEC) in North Platte, NE. The apportionment is 40% research and 60% extension. The program will focus on agricultural irrigation management in the context of sustainability, including water quantity for irrigation, and impact of irrigation on water quality (such as nitrates). Potential topics include sensors for irrigation management, joint management of irrigation and nutrients, new technology for irrigation (including collaboration with the Irrigation Innovation Consortium), adoption of best management practices, etc. A strong connection with stakeholders will be critical for a successful program, including producers, natural resource districts, irrigation districts, irrigation industry, and state and federal agencies. The incumbent will be expected to engage their extension and research programs with irrigation faculty as well as faculty in collaborating disciplines. Example collaborations include faculty in BSE and WCREEC, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, the School of Natural Resources, the Department of Agricultural Economics, Water and Integrated Cropping Systems (WICS), and the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute.Minimum Required Qualifications:

- PhD in Agricultural Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, or closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver interpersonal education, such as extension programming.
- Documentation of research in irrigation engineering and management.
