Position Summary:

The Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia invites applications and nominations for a public service faculty position within the Planning and Environmental Services Unit of the Strategic Operations and Planning Assistance Division. The Carl Vinson Institute of Government is a Public Service Unit under the leadership of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach. The position will be available June 1, 2022 and carries rank in the public service faculty career ladder of The University of Georgia.
The Planning and Environmental Services Unit assists cities, counties, and government authorities by supplying them with information, presentations and written reports that serve as management tools to aid in decision making. The work often involves extensive law and policy research and collaboration with engineering, landscape design, and planning experts. Projects include compatible land use studies, land conservation proposals, resilience plans, and coordination among federal, state, and local stakeholders. This position will report to the Planning and Environmental Services unit manager. This position requires travel. The position will spend considerable time working directly with military personnel and the Army Corps of Engineers. Thus, it is critical that the candidate possess the desire, ability, and background to interact in a very objective, positive, and supportive manner with these important clients of the Institute of Government.

Responsibilities
· Provide assistance to local government agencies and military commanders on a variety of projects.· Establish and maintain working relationships with personnel in local governments, military installations and professional associations.· Meet with potential clients to determine needs and negotiate contracts.· Develop projects and pursue grant funding.· Participate in professional associations.· Gather, analyze, and present data in an accessible manner.· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:

The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Public Service Assistant, Public Service Associate, or Senior Public Service Associate.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for client interactions and presentations.
  • Provide assistance and consultation and perform applied research as needed.
  • Background working with military installations is preferred.
