Job Title:              Director of Major Gifts                                    

Reports To:         Vice President for Advancement

Status:                  Full-time, salary

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donor prospects for significant contributions to the college within the context of a comprehensive campaign
  2. Develop and implement strategies for cultivating relationships, matching campaign priorities and needs with donor interests, researching donor capacity and donor interrelationships with other supporters, volunteers and staff
  3. Work closely with members of the Board of Trustees, Advancement Committee, and other leadership volunteers to identify new, potential major donors 
  4. Solicit and/or facilitate solicitation meetings with major donor prospects, working closely with the VP for Advancement, College President, college staff, and volunteer leaders and/or Board members
  5. Using a moves management system, track prospect progress through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship by entering timely and relevant contact reports into the college’s database of record, Jenzabar
  6. Serve as an integral part of the college’s comprehensive campaign planning by providing input on campaign priorities, collateral, leadership volunteers, training opportunities for faculty/staff, campaign events, and other campaign related functions
  7. Oversee implementation of stewardship and recognition for all major donors
  8. Work closely with Advancement colleagues to maximize existing relationships to elevate current giving to the college
  9. In collaboration with the Director of Advancement Events and Director of Alumni Engagement, help to identify honorees (Gala, Golf/Tennis, and Distinguished Alumni) that have the ability to make or connections that can lead to, giving to the college
  10. Perform other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree required (Graduate degree preferred).
  2. Demonstrated experience, success, and progressive responsibility in fundraising with a minimum of five years’ experience.
  3. Ability to set goals strategically and oversee execution.
  4. High level of discretion and ethical approach to fundraising.
  5. Proven ability to interact and influence philanthropic leaders.
  6. Experience motivating and managing high-profile volunteer leadership and senior executives. 
  7. Ability to work cross-functionally with various internal and external constituents.
  8. Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  10. Proficiency in database management, Microsoft Office Suite, and other computer skills, as required.
  11. Passion for Mount Saint Mary College’s mission to harness, leverage and strategically invest the collective power of donors, advocates and volunteers, to drive measurable results that improve the lives of people in our region.
  12. Valid driver’s license & insurance and/or reliable transportation required for out-of-office travel as required by the position.

Founded by the Sisters of Saint Dominic in 1960, the Mount has been an academic presence here in Newburgh since 1883. The college's roots in education, and in the training of educators, go even further back to the 14th century and Saint Dominic.

Location. Newburgh, New York. The Mount is conveniently located in the Mid-Hudson Valley, midway between New York City and New York's capital city, Albany. The Mount is in Newburgh in Orange County, New York, on a beautiful campus that overlooks the western banks of the Hudson River. It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.

Athletic teams. The Mount offers Men's Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, and Track and Field, and Women's Basketball, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Field, and Volleyball.
