Job Description Summary:

The New England School of Communications at Husson University invites applications for an Instructor or Assistant Professor (dependent upon qualifications) of Video/Film Production to begin in Fall 2022.

Video and Film Production is all about telling a story through a special medium. Students in the Video/Film Production Major achieve learning objectives that range from broadcast operations to video production to digital film-making. Students acquire the knowledge and skills for video and audio acquisition and shooting, editing, directing, lighting, computer network operations, replay, graphics, compositing, animation and switching. They use industry standard software and hardware such that lessons learned in the classroom are transposed to real-world environments and projects that can involve film-making, documentaries, commercial production, TV broadcast, and sports production. These events provide students with the opportunity to create high-definition content. Students also learn about the distribution of video content through broadcast, web streaming, film-making, and live venues.

The primary responsibility of all full-time faculty of the University is the scholarly teaching of students in the courses and sections that are assigned. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to quality teaching, and professional service, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. He or she will be expected to deliver experiential and applied learning to students. All course delivery and assessment data will be aligned and collected in accordance with Husson University standards. Courses will be taught in face to face classrooms, hybrid environments and via online delivery. The candidate will remain current and pursue scholarship in his/her field of study as well as participate in committees and other forms of service to the institution. Additionally, this faculty will advise students regarding a variety of career goals and courses.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching-
• Teach 24 credits per academic year;
• Courses taught may include, but are not limited to VF 100 Intro to Video Production, VF 248 Filmmaking Development & Pre-production, VF 315 Cinematography, other related topics areas such as Scriptwriting, Photography, etc., and/or courses in faculty member’s area of expertise. These courses are taught as core requirements within Husson University’s Video/Film Production degree;
• Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions;
• Prepare course materials and use appropriate teaching techniques which may include but are not limited to delivering lectures, leading discussions, and conducting experiential learning opportunities in face to face classes, hybrid environments and online through Canvas;
• Deliver experiential and applied learning to students while incorporating the technology available on campus;
• Contribute to the development and revision of course content and instructional materials, textbook and equipment selection, and assessment strategies;
• Align all course delivery and collect assessment data in accordance with Husson University standards.
• Learn and apply emerging technologies and advances as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
• Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment
• Advise the program coordinator and/or school director on proposed curricular changes.
• Assist the department in experiential assessments & exercises where appropriate.

Scholarship and Professional Activity-
• Remain current in areas of expertise through continual study and scholarship in discipline and through involvement in professional organizations;
• Assist in the research and assessment of industry trends and future technologies concerning curriculum

Service-
• Participate in School, College, and University meetings, retreats, committees, and activities (open house, and/or student recruitment projects);
• Create and maintain community relations
• Representing the School off campus when appropriate
• Follow the policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Handbook

Advising-
• Advise students in NESCom according to the Husson University Advising Manual;
• Work with students and employers in professional settings, internships, field placements, and similar work-related situations as needed;
• Employ University retention strategies;
• Maintain weekly office hours to meet with students regarding class work, course registration, program declaration and career preparation.

The Instructor or Assistant Professor will be provided with the necessary training and supportive supervision to help them succeed and become part of a vigorous learning environment.

Education and Experience:

The successful candidate will hold at a minimum a Master’s degree. A MFA from an accredited institution is preferred.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching with specific knowledge and ability to teach undergraduate courses in video & film production areas is required.

Training and professional work experience in the field of video & film production is preferred.

The successful candidate will be dynamic, energetic, creative, and engaging and have strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating a commitment to cultural diversity and inclusive education.
