The College of Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for two half-time, non-tenure track Clinical Instructor positions to begin August 2022. We are seeking applicants who want to supervise early childhood, elementary, secondary, and/or special education teacher candidates in the field and who want to teach courses within the teacher preparations programs at UCCS. We are particularly interested in applicants who have a strong interest in inclusive, innovative and collaborative approaches to teacher education, especially school/university partnerships that leverage technology to enhance access.   

Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience teaching adult learners.

The College of Education professional education programs are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), and the Colorado Commission of Higher Education (CCHE). The College of Education offers programs in professional education and teacher licensure in Inclusive Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education; Counseling; Educational Administration; and Student Affairs in Higher Education. Undergraduate, Master and PhD degrees are awarded by the College.

Job Duties: 

Teach two courses each semester. Supervision of every 12 teacher candidates each semester is equivalent to teaching one course each semester. 

Attend monthly meetings for university supervisors 

Attend monthly department meetings and regular program meetings 

Serve on department, college, and university committees 

Related to Supervison of Teacher Candidates: 

Participate in the interview and selection process of prospective teacher candidates  

Work with principals to find appropriate classroom placements for teacher candidates 

Provide formal and informal feedback on observations of teacher candidates’ instruction 

Complete Educator Disposition Assessments for teacher candidates and enter these evaluations and formal observation evaluations for mentor teachers into an assessment management system 

Grade teacher candidates’ work submitted in an assessment management system (lesson plans, lesson reflections, video analysis assignments, etc.) 

Conduct weekly visits at school sites to address teacher candidates’ concerns, provide information about school policies and programs, clarify expectations, and provide guidance for the development of resume/cover letter/interview skills 

Meet individually with mentor teachers to discuss teacher candidates’ growth and needs 

Ensure effective communication about expectations and support for the work and concerns of mentor teachers and teacher candidates  

Meet with each teacher candidate individually for midterm evaluation 

Complete a summative evaluation of each teacher candidate at the end of each semester 

Participate in local scoring of edTPA 

Participate in scoring of the teacher candidates’ program portfolios 

Respond to student learning needs in a timely manner 

Related to Teaching Courses: 

Create highly engaging learning experiences related to course outcomes 

Gather and assess evidence of student learning in accordance with course expectations 

Use effective distance and online learning methods when needed 

Respond to student learning needs in a timely manner 

Implement culturally responsive practices 

Develop thorough syllabi and Canvas content OR follow the provided syllabus and Canvas content for the course

Work Location: On-site

Remote work will be available for emergency events. This will be offered based on the emergency and allowance will come from leadership and the guidelines provided at the time of the emergency.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). 

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $22,500 - $25,000 per academic year at 0.50 FTE

Tentative Search Timeline: 

First round of interviews with the search committee expected to be held during the week of May 19, 2022. 

Second round of interviews with the search committee and other stakeholders expected to be held during the week of May 30, 2022. 

This position will begin August 15, 2022.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:  

Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education or closely related field. 

At least 3 years of professional teaching experience in a P-12 environment.  

Desired Qualifications: 

A terminal degree (e.g., PhD, JD) 

1 year of previous experience with mentoring teacher candidates 

Current engagement in professional development activities in the specific course content area as demonstrated in CV 

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move. Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, and fine motor skills. Tasks may involve looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
