Organizational Unit Overview:

The Department of Kinesiology is one of six academic units in the College of Health and Human Performance offering seven-degree programs: BS in Exercise Physiology, BS in Health Fitness Specialist, BS in Physical Education, BS in Sports Studies, MAEd in Physical Education, MS in Kinesiology and a Ph.D. in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science, with nearly 1300 majors and over 35 full-time faculty. Our internationally known faculty are collaborative, interdisciplinary, and successful in innovative teaching approaches and research that receives external funding. They enthusiastically engage our students in and out of the classroom through interactive lectures, research collaboration, community service projects, as well as other activities. Our distinct research labs support our academic programs as well as provide opportunities for faculty and student scholarship. Faculty and students research fields related to Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity Promotion, Biomechanics, and Motor Control, Adapted Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Psychology, Sport Management, and Pedagogy.

East Carolina University, the fourth largest institution in the University of North Carolina System, is located in Greenville, approximately 90 miles east of the Research Triangle Park and 90 miles west of the Outer Banks and coastal resorts. A faculty of over 2000 members guide nearly 29,000 students enrolled in 87 bachelors, 68 masters, 13 research doctoral, and 5 professional doctoral degrees. East Carolina University is a Carnegie Doctoral Intensive university and consists of 12 colleges and schools.

Job Duties :

The Department of Kinesiology, within the College of Health and Human Performance at East Carolina University, seeks to fill a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor faculty position with an emphasis in Adapted Physical Activity and/or Exercise and Sport Psychology. The intended start date for the successful candidate is August 2022.

The successful candidate will 1) develop a nationally recognized research program that complements department research strengths evident by a strong publication record, 2) pursue and develop an externally funded research program, 3) have the potential for, or a record of, teaching at the college level, including online or hybrid formats, in support of the Department’s educational mission related to Adapted Physical Activity and/or Exercise and Sport Psychology, 4) provide graduate and undergraduate student mentoring, 5) provide professional service to the university, community and profession, and 6) promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Contingent on Availability of Funding.

Minimum Education/Experience :

A doctoral degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field is required (such as, but not limited to, Human Performance, Exercise and Sport Science, Movement Studies, or Physical Education).

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

Preference will be given to candidates whose research, teaching and service complement existing faculty strengths in Adapted Physical Activity and/or Exercise and Sport Psychology.

Post-doctoral training or job experience that involves teaching and supervising undergraduate and graduate students, including students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
