Description:

The Washington and Lee University Department of Music invites applications for a one year, sabbatical replacement Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor of Music position. This teacher-artist will teach courses in the music core curriculum, including Theory III, History I/II, and Post-Tonal Music. The person in this position will also teach various departmental liberal arts survey courses (i.e. Intro to Music, World Music, etc.), depending on candidate qualifications and interests. The total teaching load for the year will be six courses. The appointment begins July 1, 2022.

W&L is ranked in the top twelve liberal arts institutions. The Department of Music offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees as well as a minor in music. Students may also pursue teacher education endorsement in music education. Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a record of teaching excellence at the university level and a commitment to expanding the curriculum methodology beyond the traditional Western music cannon. The department places a premium on good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a part of a team. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Strong candidates should possess a doctorate in music. A master’s degree is required. Experience teaching in a liberal arts context is desirable.

The university requires employees to become fully vaccinated for COVID-19. New employees must provide proof of at least their first shot prior to the first day of employment. Boosters are required. Individuals may seek a medical or a religious exemption to the vaccination requirement.
