Nature of WorkThe Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a full-time position at the rank of Postdoctoral Research Fellow.   The Colorado School of Public Health (CoSPH) represents a multi-university collaboration between University of Colorado (CU), Colorado State University (CSU), and University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Its mission is to promote the physical, mental, social, and environmental health of people and communities in the Rocky Mountain Region, across our nation, and globally. The mission will be accomplished through collaborations in education, population-directed research, and public health practice, reaching out to and bringing together institutions, agencies, and diverse populations. The Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity and Diabetes (LEAD) Center is a groundbreaking Research Center that investigates and seeks to understand the developmental origins of health and disease, and the complex interplay of environmental exposures, genetic and epigenetic processes, and critical developmental periods in life and the development of obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, among other diseases.  LEAD scientists aim to understand the causes of disease, and ultimately translate the findings into preventive actions.    The LEAD Center is seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in cognitive neuroscience and MRI data analysis. Successful applicants must be motivated, reliable, and mature, able to multi-task and learn new tasks quickly, and have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (both verbal and written). Our team seeks to understand how early life metabolic factors impact the brain, and in turn affect neurocognitive functioning across the life course. Our team is actively working on multiple population-based and clinical projects collecting multimodal MRI data (resting state fMRI and high-resolution structural scanning), and we are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to make significant contributions to data analysis and manuscript writing. The postdoctoral fellow will also be responsible for assisting with MRI and neurocognitive data collection and management of a large ongoing pediatric cohort study. This position is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing an independent research career in an academic setting, and the fellow will be supported in the pursuit of independent funding (e.g., NRSA fellowship, K Award).  Postdoctoral Research Project: The fellow would join a team of epidemiologists, statisticians and scientists conducting research in a large pediatric cohort on how early life metabolic factors impact the brain, and in turn affect neurocognitive functioning across the life course. Manuscript Preparation, Analysis, and Publication: The fellow is expected to focus his or her efforts on a well-defined research project. The fellow will be responsible for manuscript preparation, analysis, and publication of data generated from the postdoctoral research project. In addition to these papers, the trainee will assist Dr. Dana Dabelea and collaborators with literature review, statistical analysis, and manuscript development of additional papers.  Grant Writing: The fellow will assist the Director in developing new grant ideas and applications for internal and external grants involving cohorts within the LEAD Center.  Other Responsibilities: The fellow will assist with general statistical needs of the LEAD Director and study collaborators including consulting on appropriate analytical strategies, implementation of analyses in trainee’s choice of statistical packages, interpretation of results, and assisting with writing analysis and results sections of grants and manuscripts. Mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students may be incorporated into the trainee’s responsibilities as those opportunities become available. The position requires planning, executing, and troubleshooting analyses with minimal supervision on a daily basis. The Colorado School of Public Health is a collaborative endeavor involving the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz), Colorado State University (CSU), and the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). The Colorado School of Public Health is the first and only accredited school of public health in the Rocky Mountain Region, attracting top tier faculty and students from across the country, and providing vital contributions towards ensuring our region’s health and wellbeing. Collaboratively formed in 2008 by CU Denver, CSU and UNC, the Colorado School of Public Health provides training, innovative research and community service to actively address public health issues including chronic disease, access to healthcare, environmental threats, emerging infectious diseases, and costly injuries.  The ColoradoSPH strives to promote diversity and equity and to be a model of inclusive excellence.  We are committed to enhancing diversity among our faculty and strongly encourages individuals from underrepresented groups to apply.   The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is the only comprehensive academic health sciences center in Colorado, the largest academic health center in the Rocky Mountain region and one of the newest education, research and patient care facilities in the world. Currently home to 25,000 employees, more than 5,000 degree-seeking students and two nationally recognized hospitals that handle 1.7 million patient visits each year, CU Anschutz trains the health sciences workforce of the future, carries out a broad range of research, and cares for the state’s children, adults, and veterans. CU Anschutz features schools of medicine, pharmacy, dental medicine and public health, a college of nursing and a graduate school. CU Anschutz has many opportunities for collaboration across the health sciences, with multidisciplinary centers for prevention research, Latino research and policy, cancer, outcomes research, and American Indian/Alaska Native health, among others. CU Anschutz is located in Aurora, Colorado, a community that is racially/ethnically and socio-economically diverse.  Supervision ReceivedThis position reports directly to Dana Dabelea, MD, PhD, and will work closely with Allison Buti Shapiro, PhD in the Department of Pediatrics. Supervision ExercisedThe trainee may be responsible for supervision of undergraduate and graduate students who work directly with him or her on projects within the LEAD Center. Examples of Work Performed
