The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA is searching for an outstanding faculty member with the skills and interest to lead and grow a robust laboratory stewardship program. The appointment would be at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, commensurate with experience. This is an outstanding opportunity for a well-trained and highly motivated individual with a passion for lab stewardship. For individuals with appropriate experience and accomplishments, recruitment as the Director of Laboratory Stewardship will be considered.

The successful candidate will have an MD, PhD or MD/PhD degree as well as board certification or active candidate status for CP or AP/CP through the American Board of Pathology or other appropriate professional accrediting organization. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in clinical pathology, test utilization and laboratory stewardship. The applicant should have outstanding interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and a collaborative attitude. Eligibility for or current licensure in the state of California is required. A record of academic achievement through independent research and scholarly publications is a plus.

We seek an outstanding laboratorian who will have a collaborative administrative, clinical and academic relationship with other faculty within the Division of Laboratory Medicine. Given the nature of this role, the candidate also will be expected to develop and grow strong collaborative relationships with clinicians and leaders across UCLA Health. The candidate will have clinical laboratory service responsibilities and lead a laboratory test utilization/stewardship program to support various lab, department, hospital and health system initiatives and strategic goals. The UCLA Health laboratory enterprise encompass three laboratories, including Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Core Laboratory, Santa Monica Hospital Core Laboratory and the Bruin University Reference Laboratory; collectively, these laboratories are busy, high-complexity operations whose services span all aspects of clinical chemistry, hematology, coagulation, transfusion medicine, microbiology and toxicology. Duties will also include active participation in the educational mission of the department including the teaching of residents, fellows and medical school students. The appointment will be in the Health Sciences Clinical series, at a rank and step commensurate with experience, and as such, creative contributions in clinical activities, educational activities and/or research projects are expected.
