Job Description:

Sarah Lawrence College invites applications for a one-year, half-time visiting position in Modern British History (teaching one course each in the fall and the spring semesters), to begin Fall 2022. Any area of specialization will be considered. We welcome candidates whose research and teaching link British history with global history through such topics as Imperialism or the Commonwealth, or through migration or postcolonial studies. The successful applicant will be expected to teach two courses that together will provide a broad introduction to British history in a global context. These could address fields such as Britain’s transition from Empire to nation state and its relationship to the EU, the history of British India and its connection to the metropole, independence struggles in the British Empire including the British Isles, or British society in a postcolonial age.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae; a cover letter addressing their teaching and scholarship; a short writing sample; and syllabi for the proposed undergraduate courses (one seminar per semester, or a lecture and a seminar). In addition, applicants should provide the names and contact information for three professional references. The position will remain open until filled; review of applications will begin on April 25, 2022.
