Assistant Director for First Year Students Assistant Director for First Year Students Assistant Director for First Year Students Assistant Director for First Year Students Coe College seeks qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director for First Year Students. The Assistant Director is a full-time live-in professional staff member in Residence Life, primarily responsible for first year residents, that ensures their smooth transition and positively impacts the overall retention at the College. Provides programming to meet the unique needs and challenges of first year residents, that aligns with First Year Experience programming, and with Residence Life Learning Outcomes. Works with the Admissions Office and Director for Housing Operations to place first-years into the Residence Halls, ensuring good roommate experiences. Assumes joint responsibility for the administration and quality of the Residence Life program with the other Assistant Director and Director of Housing Operations that includes RA selection/training/supervision, assessment, and facilities management. Serves as a front-line responder in campus emergencies that may require working non-traditional hours. This position supervises one Community Development Coordinator and 8-15 RA’s, with an overall population of 400 residents, primarily in two buildings. Essential Job Responsibilities:

    • Master’s degree preferred, bachelor's degree required.

    Organization

     

    Coe College is a national, residential liberal arts college offering a broad array of programs in the arts, sciences and professions. The campus encompasses nearly 70 acres in the heart of Iowa’s second largest city, Cedar Rapids, and is adjacent to the MedQuarter Regional Medical District. 

    A member of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM), Coe enrolls 1,400 students and has approximately 415 full- and part-time employees. This includes nearly 90 full-time faculty members and 180 full-time staff members. The nine largest incoming classes in the college’s history have all come in the last nine years, with the most recent class totalling 436 students from 27 states and six countries.

    The college offers over 60 areas of study with a 4-4-1 academic calendar including an optional May Term. Nearly all students live on campus all four years, and 90% of students are involved in one or more co-curricular activities. 

    Producing 32 Fulbright Scholars in the last eight years, Coe has been named a top producer of U.S. Fulbright students when compared nationally with all colleges and universities. The college provides a highly personalized approach to education with an average class size of 16 students and a student faculty ratio of 11:1. Coe is ranked among the top 20% of all colleges and universities (according to U.S. News & World Report), and hosts a Phi Beta Kappa chapter.

    Coe’s nearly 70-acre campus includes 40 buildings and serves as an urban field station creating opportunities for students and faculty to research and study interaction of the city with the campus environment. An extension of campus includes Coe’s Wilderness Field Station, which is situated on 120 acres of land in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. 

    Recent capital improvement projects exceeding $40 million in investments include the renovation and expansion of Coe’s athletic facilities, renovation of Hickok Hall, an addition to and renovation of Peterson Hall of Science and renovation of Stewart Memorial Library to create the Learning Commons. 

    For the past decade, nearly 100% of Coe graduates have been employed, in grad school, or engaging in public service within nine months of graduation. Our location in Cedar Rapids means students have access to an extensive network of employment, internship, research and networking opportunities.     Our C3: Creativity, Careers, Community center is dedicated to working one-on-one with students to help them identify and land internship placements that match their unique interests and goals. Research opportunities have taken students to laboratories in the United Kingdom, Germany, China, and many other locations around the world.
