Organizational Unit Overview:

The primary purpose of the Office of the Registrar is to assist students with academic progress to meet their education goals; maintaining accurate, permanent, confidential records, and administering University policy and procedures. Through an emphasis on teamwork, problem solving, and planning, the Office of the Registrar’s staff will provide courteous and timely service to our constituents. The Office of the Registrar continually automates processes and refines service to support University enrollment goals, registration, grading, graduation, and other academic services needed by current and former students.

Job Duties :

The Senior Assistant Registrar will assist in improving the University’s transfer enrollment rate and overall student retention rate by working on several initiatives including, but not limited to, the following:

30%: As an integral part of the success of the transfer student population, this position will have oversight of annual baccalaureate degree plan development for navigation between the North Carolina Community College System and ECU. These degree plans will be developed for the North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement and all other uniform articulation agreements. This position will also develop and maintain baccalaureate degree plans for bilateral agreements in which ECU has entered. This person will serve on the University Bilateral Agreement Committee (UBAC).

10%: The person will also increase awareness of the Reverse Transfer program and its impact on retention and completion of the four-year degree and will serve on the UNC System Reverse Transfer Discussion Group.

20%: This individual will have oversight of the Pirate Promise verification process to track and increase students approved for the program and matriculating to ECU. In this role, the Senior Assistant Registrar will communicate with partner Pirate Promise institutions and will be involved in the data collection, strategic planning, and assessment of the program.

20%: The Partway Home and Adult Learner student populations will be another focus of this position. This individual will work with academic units and the academic advising center to identify former students and solutions that allow the students to return to the University on a path toward degree completion. This person will also implement UNC System Office initiatives geared toward Partway Home students and Adult Learners including, but not limited to, prior learning assessment, adult learner outreach, and third-party vendor involvement in partway home projects. The individual will serve on UNC System discussion groups such as the Adult Learner Network, Credit for Prior Learning Group, among others. This individual will assist in any proposal requests or applications to obtain funding/approval to participate in projects targeting enrollment campaigns for these student cohorts.

5%: The individual will work to identify solutions to prevent students from falling into a partway home status, specifically looking for solutions to degree requirements, university policies, etc.

5%: This individual will review, update and document key processes for all the transfer, retention, and graduation projects. The Senior Assistant Registrar will also identify training gaps and opportunities within the university regarding these processes and will provide necessary training to Registrar Office staff, faculty, other University staff, and students. The Senior Assistant Registrar is responsible for developing the agenda for and organizing monthly Registrar Office staff meetings. 10%: The Senior Assistant Registrar will assist in coordinating initiatives that are developed where Registrar staff involvement is needed, including assisting with the development and ongoing maintenance of the PeeDee the ChatBot knowledge base to improve retention rates, ongoing Finish in Four initiatives, Degree Works initiatives, discussions about changes to the course registration procedures, transfer articulation processes that might improve transfer student recruitment, assessment review, and others.The Senior Assistant Registrar for Retention and Transfer Services will report directly to the Chief Academic Success Officer and University Registrar. The individual will assist the University Registrar and others on the leadership team with special projects and will serve on University and UNC System Office committees as needed. The Senior Assistant Registrar will attend training sessions, conferences, webinars, etc. to remain current on higher education topics and technical training related to the job requirements.

Position is contingent upon available funding.

Minimum Education/Experience :

A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, social or behavioral sciences, or other relevant area is required. All degrees should be from appropriately accredited institutions. Three years of experience in strategic planning and assessment, well-developed skills in process improvement, business intelligence solutions, and excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :


Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

Experience in strategic planning and assessment in higher education with a focus on student retention and success.
