Job Overview

The Systems Administrator operates independently with general supervision in managing all technology-related systems for Public Safety, which include three (3) departmental units: Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD), Office of Emergency Management (OEM), and International Travel Safety (ITS). Operations include GUPD Command and Control Center systems, systems support and integration, and long-range planning.

The Systems Administrator provides insight and recommendations on maintenance, upgrades, and new acquisitions related to technological infrastructure

Work Interactions

Reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager, the Systems Administrator has a “dotted line” accountability to University Information Systems to ensure alignment of the overall University technical strategies, and to maintain appropriate communications on technology planning and policy adherence for security, privacy, and acceptable use of technology.

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience (system implementation, support and integration experience) or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience -preference for experience in safety and security technology and processes
  • Knowledge of microcomputer hardware, software and operating systems.
  • Knowledge of security, surveillance and radio communications systems.
  • Ability to research, coordinate and implement new activities.
  • Ability to employ tact and courteous demeanor in engagement with students, faculty, staff, visitors, dignitaries and community members
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
