The Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking motivated individuals to perform the duties of a Medical Technologist I. This position is responsible for testing of clinical and research samples, performing instrument maintenance, performing quality control procedures, maintaining appropriate documentation within the guidelines of the quality management program, and other duties that further the delivery and science of laboratory medicine. Periodic specimen collection by venipuncture is included in daily duties. This position resides in the UF Health Pathology Laboratories (UFHPL) system and will provide services at several locations, including mainly at the UFHPL Student Health Care Center Core (SHCC) Laboratory, SHCC Point-of-Care testing sites, and the UFHPL main Core Laboratory. The position requires certification and State of Florida licensure in one of the following specialties: Chemistry, Hematology, Serology. This position reports to the UFHPL SHCC Core Laboratory Supervisor.
Perform specimen processing, testing, resulting, instrument maintenance, cleaning, and documentation required to maintain high quality testing and laboratory accreditation. Periodically perform specimen collection, including venipuncture. Provide excellent customer service through verbal, non-verbal, and written communication.
Perform quality control, quality assurance, and inventory control procedures.
Assist in new or replacement test development.
Provide technical and educational support other UFHPL laboratory sections, including training new hires and teaching students.
Other duties as assignedExpected Salary:
Salary range is between $25.75 - $28.00 per hour
Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in one of the specialty areas to which the position is allocated.
- Knowledge of laboratory science, laboratory procedures, and quality control
- Knowledge of common core laboratory tests
- Experience with specimen collection techniques
- Ability to perform core laboratory testing independently
- Ability to use problem solving techniques in the laboratory
- Ability to communicate with clients, health care providers, and laboratory personnel
- Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the biological sciences
- Expertise with data management, computers, and laboratory information systems
