The Way Lab at the University of Colorado Denver l Anschutz Medical Campus welcomes applications for a Software Engineer (Open Rank).

The Way Lab's mission is to integrate high-dimensional biomedical data into clinical decision-making and drug discovery. We are biologists who use data science to reduce human suffering. We develop and validate analytical methods, novel approaches, and write open source software for the biology community. We aim to improve patient treatment strategies, discover biological mechanisms, and enable computational reproducibility with open source software.

The Software Engineer will play an important role in advancing this mission by developing and maintaining open source software for processing, evaluating, and providing access to cell microscopy image data.

Nature of Work:

The Way Lab is looking to hire a Software Engineer to create, develop, maintain, and deploy software products towards furthering the lab’s mission.

This position will provide an opportunity to develop and improve open-source software products that serve multiple communities of users. Some of the existing publicly-available tools include pycytominer (https://github.com/cytomining/pycytominer) and cytominer-eval (https://github.com/cytomining/cytominer-eval). The software engineer will maintain these packages and work towards improving usability and scalability. The software engineer will also have the opportunity to develop new tools in the areas of data visualization, machine learning, and public data.

The engineer will work closely with grad students, postdocs, and other stakeholders to design and implement software packages, data processing pipelines, machine learning applications, CI/CD, unit-tests, and comprehensive documentation.

The engineer will also join a highly interactive, supportive, and interdisciplinary group of faculty, staff scientists, postdoctoral fellows, engineers, and students in The Center for Health Artificial Intelligence (AI). They will enjoy access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

The Center for Health AI fosters a thriving community of researchers at the University of Colorado School of Medicine who are inventing and deploying advanced analytics and knowledge integration approaches. The goal of building this community is to make the Anschutz Medical Campus a leader in translating data into advances in research practice, health care delivery, and population health and in scaling these to provide nationwide benefit through innovative technologies.

This position may be eligible for remote or remote/office flex work.

Supervision Received:

The Software Engineer will report to the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Gregory Way, PhD.

The PI will mentor the engineer and provide deliverables. The PI aims to provide personalized mentorship and opportunities to fulfill the specific career goals as mutually established.

Supervision Exercised:

As necessary to carry out the duties of the role, the IT Professional may guide and mentor other employees.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at

Senior Professional:  $59,000 - $89,000
Principal Professional: $68,000 - $102,000

 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

 

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

 

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Principal Professional:
