Minimum Requirements

· A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.

· Demonstrated competencies in Agribusiness, Agriculture Economics, Agriculture Education or a closely related field.

· Minimum of five years of progressive experience in the agriculture field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Excellent analytical, organizational, and management skills.

· Must possess strong communication skills (oral and written), and demonstrate the interpersonal skills needed in a highly visible leadership role.

· Knowledge of the mission and purpose of the NC Community College System.

· Ability to stand, walk or crouch on narrow, slippery, and erratically moving surfaces; stoop, kneel, bend to pick up or move objects, office equipment, and furniture.

· Ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing 25 pounds and to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

· Normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range

· Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.

· Ability to work well with others

Preferred Requirements

· Master’s degree in Agribusiness, Agriculture Economics, Agriculture Education or a closely related discipline.

· Experience teaching school-based agricultural education.

· Teaching experience in a community college

Primary Functions of Position

Since producing learning is the primary function of the college, it is the principal responsibility of each instructional staff member to effectively and efficiently stimulate learning in every course. In addition, each instructional staff member should provide guidance to students through their role as an academic advisor and in more informal ways. Each staff member is expected to participate in the governance of the college through committees and divisional meetings, through shared leadership within and across divisions, through personal recommendations to college administrators.

Essential Duties:

· Areas of instruction will prepare students to apply technical knowledge and skills in Agribusiness, Agriculture Economics, Agriculture Education and Horticulture.

· An ability to effectively facilitate student learning in agribusiness courses.

· Experience developing and maintaining relationships with FFA chapters.

· An ability to facilitate learning for students from diverse backgrounds including culture,

ethnicity, age, gender and ability.

· Willingness to provide instruction to curriculum, continuing education, workforce training or other students which may be scheduled as day, evening, weekend or online options.

· A commitment to the incorporation of current technology in the field of Agriculture in instruction.

· A willingness to participate in public school and university articulation, advisement, and recruitment programs of the College.

· A willingness to teach in the day, evening, on Saturday, at unconventional times or via distance learning (i.e., interactive TV, telecourse, Internet) as necessary.

· Participation in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of courses/programs to improve student learning.

· A desire to participate in professional development activities, including those related to the use of critical thinking skills in instructional design and in student development.

· Prepare adequately for all classes assigned and conduct all classes in a professional manner.

· Develop and carry out student testing program in all classes taught that meets College policy and standards.

· Develop, maintain and record student learning outcomes for courses and associated program(s)

· Maintain accurate records and reports and submit these in a timely manner to the appropriate person.

· Partner with local agriculture and horticulture facilities for better understanding of their applicable needs, then transferring those needs into the program instruction.

· Maintain the technical competencies necessary to the job function.

· A commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept.

· A desire to participate in community service activities.

· Maintain a professional attitude toward teaching and professional relationships.

· Establish and conduct working lab conditions and greenhouse facility that mirror industry standards.

· Classroom and lab management with regard to providing an orderly, clean, safe working environment, while ensuring that all related equipment is maintained within budget constraints.

· Classes and labs must operate according to environmental standards and comply with appropriate OSHA and EPA regulations.

· Responsible for greenhouse operation, monitoring and cleanliness during and after training session and ensures greenhouse is always maintained to include day, evening and weekends as required.

· Maintain annual budget for program.

· Prepare adequately for all classes assigned and conduct all classes in a professional manner.

· Develop and carry out student testing program in all classes taught that meets College policy and standards.

· Develop, maintain and record student learning outcomes for courses and associated program(s)

· Maintain accurate records and reports and submit these in a timely manner to the appropriate person.

· Maintain the technical competencies necessary to the job function.

· Develop and maintain partnership with the NC State Cooperative Extension office of Columbus County; state agencies; and local organizations associated with agriculture and horticulture.

· Customer service and team-oriented; understands the community college mission.

Application Procedures

The successful candidate must begin work on July 18, 2022. Salary is dependent upon qualifications, experience, and labor market. (Employment contract is for 12 months.)

A completed Southeastern Community College application, a resume, letter of interest addressing the requirements and educational transcripts (unofficial copies of transcripts will be sufficient for the screening process, but official copies must be submitted prior to employment) must be submitted to the college Human Resources Office in order for applicants to be considered for this position.
