* Job Summary This position will assist with the daily operations of the THJH Hemoglobinopathy Laboratory by supporting the efforts of the Newborn Screening program, perform HPLC and other tests as needed for clinical support, assist with quality control procedures, assist with management of equipment and supply inventory, and perform specialized tests required for ongoing research projects. This position will assist the Laboratory Director as needed in the daily administrative functions of the lab. This position will also assist with various Research programs and perform cell cultures, immunofluorescence experiments, western blots, DNA/RNA isolations, PCR’s and genetic sequencing. This position will also provide assistance in several other key experiments to aid the generation of data for publication and submit competitive grant application.Responsibilities The duties include, but are not limited to:

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

- Perform Cation exchange HPLC and Reverse Ph HPLC analyses for support of the newborn screening program as well as other diagnostic clinical and research support
- Recieve samples in the lab and process Research samples for hemoglobinopathy testing. Maintain database of specimens received and racking of those specimens until all requested tests are performed; maintain all repository samples in working order, including serum, urine, and DNA samples; assist with data collection for various statistical analysis
- Assist with development and maintenance of quality control measures; prepare for CAP and CLIA certifications; assist with preparation of reports
- Assist with daily operations of the lab such as answering the phones, filing, and transporting items around campus
- Perform specialized tests required for ongoing research projects, as needed including DNA based analyses, cell cultures, immnofluorescece experiements and western blots
- Perfom preventative maintenance on equipment
- All other duties as assigned
OR

Preferred Qualifications Two years’ experience as Research Assistant in high complexity clinical laboratory; experience in HPLC, molecular methods and cell culture preferred. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
