Position Title:  Clinical Nursing Faculty - Professional Specialist or Assistant Professor


Job Summary:

The workload of a full time Clinical Nursing Faculty shall include 22-24 student contact hours per week in the fall and spring semesters (9-month FT faculty contract). Such teaching assignments may be a combination of clinical instruction formats, such as three 8-hour off-campus clinical groups, two 8-hour off-campus clinical groups and two 3-4 hour on-campus clinical labs, etc. Clinical faculty will include the responsibilities of student advising at a proportionately reduced load (8-12 students assigned).


Essential Functions:



Support the mission of the university and the philosophy, purpose, and the objectives of the program.Collaborate with clinical course faculty in the development of clinical teaching-learning activities to support student learning outcomes.Collaborate with the Academic Clinical Coordinator to teach in a variety of clinical courses and sites to support enrollment and in accordance with the curriculum.Facilitate both off- and on-campus clinical education, including but not limited to acute care and community based locations, virtual clinical activities, clinical skills lab, and scheduled on-campus healthcare simulation activities. Clinical

Prior to the beginning of each semester, become acquainted with clinical agencies’ policies and personnel on units utilized by students and with any special considerations regarding students’ clinical practice.Acquaint the facility staff with the purpose, mechanisms and objectives for the student clinical experience.Plan appropriate orientation for students prior to clinical practice.Supervise students to appropriate degree while in the clinical area.Evaluate the effectiveness of the facility/agency in meeting desired objectives and availability of service for student learning.Evaluate students’ clinical performance and academic progress according to program and university policies and course syllabi, including regular formative and summative feedback per Nursing Department clinical evaluation procedures.Maintain personal professional liability insurance.Maintain clinical competency and advancement in nursing practice. 

University Responsibilities

Attend all nursing program faculty meetings as scheduled.Attend commencement ceremonies.Participate in the Alvernia University faculty community as described in theAlvernia University Faculty Handbook.Submit current professional documentation (i.e. continuing education, license, liability insurance, clearances, health records). 

Required Qualifications:

Current Professional Nursing License in PennsylvaniaMaster’s Degree in Nursing (minimum)Advanced clinical certifications preferred but not requiredCurrent clinical experienceTeaching experience preferred
