Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.
Additional Department Summary: Bioscience and Medicine initiative within the College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS), at the University of Alabama (UA), is excited to invite qualified candidates to multiple Postdoctoral Research Associate positions to meet its growing research initiatives. We wish to emphasize that this is a highly unique opportunity to recruit new staff to one of the leading teams in the nation in nanotechnology-based oral drug delivery, which is the subject of four currently funded multi-year R01 grants from the National Institutes of Health, UA’s CCHS and the Office for Research and Economic Development will develop a strong partnership to champion this research forward creating extensive opportunities for collaboration across campus, and specifically including the Alabama Life Research Institute as well as the College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences, through newly established Center for Convergent Bioscience and Medicine (CCBM, http://ccbm.ua.edu).
Duties are specifically related to research activities, require an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment.
The post holder(s) will assist within a research team and undertake research in drug delivery and clinical pharmacology. The research in drug delivery lab (http://thekumarlab.ua.edu) seeks to provide customized solutions for different drugs, biological barriers, and diseases. To take this research further, we are seeking to fill multiple positions in dosage form design, clinical pharmacology (e.g., diabetes and complications, lupus, cancer), PK-PD and collectively contribute to the success of ongoing therapeutic programs. Knowledge of GMPs and GLPs, pre-clinical toxicology is highly desirable. Excellent problem solving, analytical, spatial- reasoning skills are required. Strong organizational, communication, and management skills are required to assist and collaborate with multidisciplinary groups of technology innovators in a dynamic team environment.
Self-motivated individuals who recently obtained a PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical engineering, or a similar field. Advanced English skills (both written and verbal) are required. Additionally, the candidate must be willing to work independently as well as within a group setting. The right candidate will be offered a competitive salary and benefits package. Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Full understanding of framing research question, research design and methods, and project implementation. Research experience in dosage form design, extensive experience in animal handing skills for the conduct of efficacy studies in rodent models-PK-PD, administer test compounds into animals through various routes like peroral (gavage), IP, IV, SC, etc, and understanding and adherence to good experimental practice’s including data collection, curation, and storage.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates will have strong publication record and demonstrated experience in research study design and project implementation, Computer literacy including databases, standard software platforms, spread sheets and statistical analysis. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
