Position description
The Department of Astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in Astronomy should an opening arise.

Due to Covid-19 or other possible disruptions to in-person instruction, courses taught during the spring, summer and fall semesters may be taught remotely, in-person, or via a hybrid model, as required by county and state public health guidelines. Remote instruction may be synchronous, asynchronous, or a combination of both. Instructors must have internet access and be prepared to adjust pedagogical approaches with a remote setting and use new teaching tools.

Teaching responsibilities: We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach one or more courses in the undergraduate Astronomy/Astrophysics curriculum. A listing of current course descriptions is available on the Department of Astronomy website.

General duties: teaching responsibilities, holding office hours, developing syllabi, assignments, writing exams, supervising GSIs and maintaining course website. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.

UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
The minimum qualification required to be considered an applicant for the position is the completion of a Bachelor's (or equivalent international degree) at the time of application.
Preferred qualifications
The preferred qualification is a PhD (or international equivalent degree) in Astronomy, Physics, Astrophysics, or related fields, by the start of the date.
