Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of Work

The University of Colorado Division of Infectious Diseases seeks a postdoctoral fellow for the Antiretroviral Discovery, Evaluation and Application Research (ADEAR) T32 Training Program. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative research program, funded by the NIH, focused on HIV/AIDS-related research. The research position and expectations will be dependent upon the mentor that the applicant works with, but could include community-based studies, participation in clinical trials (recruiting, evaluating participants, completing research visits), epidemiology or large database studies (obtaining and cleaning large datasets, implementing novel analytic methods), or more laboratory-based work. 

This position is unable to sponsor a work Visa.

Areas of Responsibility / Scope of Research

As above, responsibilities and scope of research will differ based on the mentor’s research program.  Applicants are encouraged to review the T32 website (https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/infectious-diseases/education/colorado-hiv-1-research-training-program) for possible research mentors.  The program can assist in connecting the applicants and mentors to together formulate a specific research plan. 

Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $53,760 to $63,036 per NIH guidelines. Trainees receive salary support according to NIH guidelines.The University of Colorado offers postdocs most employee benefits.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    Hold a terminal degree in their field (e.g., D.D.S, D.O., D.N.P., D.V.M., M.D., Pharm.D. and/or Ph.D.)  Experience working with humanized mouse models and infectious HIV-1 cultivation and propagation is required
Conditions of Employment

    Be committed to a career as an investigator in HIV-related researchBe able to devote full-time effort to the training program during the period of support.The applicant’s mentor has to be a full-time faculty at the University of Colorado campuses in Aurora, Boulder and Denver, Colorado State University, or Denver University and hold an R01 or equivalent funding during the training period. 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:

All candidates must agree to applicable payback stipulations in the T32 regulations.All candidates should have completed their terminal degree by the start of T32 support, have not received independent funding, and have a proposed mentored research project related to HIV/AIDS. Preference will be given to applications broadly related to HIV treatment (from basic science to clinical dissemination/implementation). All recipients will be encouraged to submit at least one additional grant during the funding cycle.All candidates doing human subject research are required to have passed the NIH required human subjects training and test (CITI Basic www.citiprogram.org), and have approval from the IRB and CTRC (if appropriate) before initiating the research.  All candidates are expected to include appropriate (recently revised) training in responsible conduct of research per NIH Grants Policy Statement.All proposals should relate to the high priority topics for HIV/AIDS research (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-15-137.html)

c.             Faculty Participation: training faculty are highly encouraged to participate in formal/informal instruction.

d.            Duration of Instruction: at least 8 contact hours of instruction (semester-long series are preferred).

e.            Frequency of Instruction: at least once in each career stage and/or every 4 years.
